In 1966 I found my love
In 1967 I had all there was
And as my time went by I was satisfied
Until that situation took me by surprise

Now there's two trains runnin' - on that line
One train's me, and the other's a friend of mine
You know it would be all right, be just fine
If the woman took one train, and left the other behind

Illusion it is just the same conclusion
I don't know how to play the game
Of what it is or how it's going to be
When one train is my friend and the other train is me

Easy, I say easy, I can't push or shove her
So I guess I really care
Now I'm not one to hide my love behind a lock and key
But if things keep going the way they are there's no place left for me

There's two trains runnin' - on that line
One train's me, and the other's a friend of mine
You know it would be all right, be just fine
If the woman took one train, and left the other behind

Two trains, two trains, two trains, two trains

I find these lyrics to be pretty tame...especially by today's standards.  Which lyrics exactly do you find gross?

For me it's a toss up between Dixie Chicken and Sailing Shoes. Both include some of my favourite all time songs - by anyone.
their best album?

I didn't know that. Learn something every day on RP. Thanks!

I saw them both with and without Lowell, always a good show. Haven't seen them since Richie passed (RIP).
Some of Lowell's best slide playing. I can recall hearing this at a college party and being knocked out.
This is just so kick ass...had to raise to outstanding.

Understandable.  The first time I heard some of Palmer's work I thought it was Little Feat.

Inspired by the case of "Jubilee Jim" Fisk, a 19th century railroad financier killed on account of a love triangle. When Fisk discovered that his girlfriend was sleeping with his business partner (the guy who later shot him), and she declined to make a forced choice between them, Fisk replied, “No, Josie, it won’t do. You can’t run two engines on the same track in contrary directions at the same time.” https://www.murderbygaslight.com/.../06/jubilee-jim-fisk.html

Along with POCO, Loggins & Messina, Orleans, LeRoux, The Feat - most under-rated bands of the 70's.  All of those bands were fantastic live too.  Some of them still are including what's left of the Feat.
COOL.

I've always thought that Little Feat sounded the way Grateful Dead wish they did. Maybe I'm way off here, but that's what I think. I do think, however, that both were really better as a live band.

Nicely stated
The bonus with this band: They had some of the best album covers ever.

much love to you for starting off my morning with some honey-dripping Southern music. a thousand thanks!
Okay, Sparky, how about you offer us your alternate interpretation of the meaning of the serpentine accordian--or was it an accidental inclusion in the artwork?

The only comment I can give to such an ignorant statement like that is "what an idiot!" First of all, the accordian is "looking outward", so how you can get that it's "peering" in any other direction is just from your own sex-obsessed idiocity.

I expect everyone has noticed the scary monster mug on the head of the accordian.

Yeah Bill, what gives? I looked all over for the meaning, but found ziltch.

Then there's the guy who links the lyrics with STDs? !?

Willing to bet that's the Compact Disc release.  The original release was 1973, of course.

What a great talent...vale Lowell George

Has this been remastered? Remarkably clear. If so, I need a new set of Feats CDs . . .
Ah, Lowell . . . come back, come back.

ALWAYS KICK ASS
Musically, this would sound good with "Son of a Preacher Man." (Lyrically, it might be a little disjunct {#Lol})

The mentioned broadcast in German TV (in the early eighties, I guess) was the first time I saw Little Feat. Didn´t impress me much, though. Only years later I re-discovered them: one of the best bands ever. The albums with Lowell George: simply the very best.

Dang near three decades now, and I still miss that Craftsman 11/16th socket wrench....

Listening to this album is for me always happy and sad at the same time. Man, I miss hearing this band. I was living in Germany and had a live Little Feat concert recorded that was on one of the German channels. RIP, Little Feat.

Mine too! I was lucky enough to see them several times with Lowell.
Last song Lowell ever played BTW.
Love that smokin hot slide guitar! Little Feat set the bar way way high (I was most of the time, too)

It's simply about two guys (friends) in love with the same woman. Didn't hear Bill's comment but that's how I've always interpreted the song.
What does this song mean? I do not really get Bill's insinuations.
Ahhhh, Rebecca chose to add my upload! Yet another Feats classic to the RPmix. Only bummer is that I missed hearing it.
I think I am eighth, which is not too bad.
More songs from this cool album!
