You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first
I loved you first
Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go
I have to go

Your hair was long
When we first met

Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
He ate a slice of wonderbread
And went right back to bed

And history books forgot about us
And the Bible didn't mention us
And the Bible didn't mention us
Not even once

You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first
I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads
But they're just old light
They're just old light

Your hair was long
When we first met

Samson came to my bed
Told me that my hair was red
He told me I was beautiful
And came into my bed

Oh, I cut his hair myself one night
A pair of dull scissors in the yellow light
And he told me that I'd done alright
And kissed me till the morning light, the morning light
And he kissed me till the morning light...

Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
He ate a slice of wonderbread
And went right back to bed

Oh, we couldn't bring the columns down
Yeah, we couldn't destroy a single one
And history books forgot about us
And the Bible didn't mention us
Not even once

You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first

Logged into the forums for the first time in ages just to say that this is an awesome song. Listening to it at work, and the song shouldered its way into my attention focus. This should be played back-to-back with a version of Cohen's Hallelujah, another song with a quirky reference to the Samson story.
Gets a 1 out of principle.
This song brings tears to my eyes every time. ♥
Love Regina and very much love this song

PS Johnny-smooth Porcupine Tree's Sentimental is a cracking tune too
Interesting.

I was luke warm at first but the lyrics grew on me.

And history books forgot about us
And the Bible didn't mention us
Not even once

I need to listen to it again before I can rate this one.
Very nice.
PSD pushed me to Porcupine Tree's Sentimental, now that is some music I can enjoy

I don't mind her voice, it's her music that I can't stand.

Yes, you've nailed it for me, too. I haven't heard anything from her that I could honestly say I enjoyed, until this crossed my path today. How wonderful this RP world can be!
I love Regina Spektor!

This girl is growing on me......and not in a bad way.         {#Jump}
I cannot stand her voice.
For whatever mystical reason the gods of music have deemed acceptable, Ms Spektor's music appeals to me enormously. I have very much enjoyed her last two albums and I look forward to seeing her live when next she visits Tel Aviv.
Sounds like an iPod commercial. How I hate Apple.
Just love her voice. Had never heard this before, wow.

This entire album deserves a listen, from any out there that haven't. It is truly one of the most haunting, beautiful, and emotional albums I have heard in years...if not a bit quirky.

I first heard this on CSI NY back in 2006, A haunting but beautiful end to that episode.

Never played? What a shame...
Please play this song, I find it very beautiful!
