No one cares what dress she wears at all
Tattered rags and paper bags and all
She's the one sleeping in the dirt
Drag her down, don't let her drown in dirt

Lovers drag their canes across the gates
Gamblers light candles for the days
No one wake her up, she's sleeping still
So put a candle on the window sill

Soldier Jane, don't be afraid
Take your heart out of the shell
Take your heart out of the shell
Throw it away

Stars, they strike the darkness in the room
Knives, they take the poison from the wound
Cars, they drive us down into the ruins
And sweep our cares away with dirty brooms

Soldier Jane, don't be afraid
Take your heart out of the shell
Take your heart out of the shell
Don't be afraid

Would rather hear less becky.
Wonderful song! He's such a Beat-Meister!  He is always laying down the most killer grooves! I dig his timing and delivery! Trippy genius!
Good tune!
BillG: more Beck pls! Love this period!
I've never heard a bad song by Beck
that's so great !

I'm not overly thrilled with any of his album cover choices. Glad I enjoy his music first...because I wouldn't be inclined to listen if I only had a visual of his cover choices.

This CD booklet actually came with a sticker sheet and a blank graph paper background so you could "make your own" album cover. Yeah, I kid you not. So you could have made your own kick-ass cover!

I guess I should point out for the record that Beck's religious beliefs don't concern me.
I just like his music.

Then you'll be indifferent to find out he recently LEFT that silly cult he was in ;-)

And I +1'd this, it's a 9 to my ears, love how the beat keeps going and just gets me in a nice laid-back groove...LLRP!!

I LOVE BECK!!!!  Saw in concert with my son who was 16 at the time.  It was AWESOME!   Great musicians in his band.
Big Beck fan here, but I'd not heard this nice little tune before, thanks Bill. Most excellent.

Stay thirsty, my friends. Takes less talent than the above post.
quite enjoyable
I used to be on a band that played this as a driving rock song. It was better, honest.

Is this guy ever going to write an original song? Beck "Mediocre" Hansen.

Please.

Stop.

Playing.

So.

Much.

Beck.
Like the tune, dislike the cover art.

Beck is always good
Just loathed this guy from the beginning.  And yet Bill has kept plugging away with it, wearing down my defenses . . . and hey.  I kind of like it.  Damn you, Bill!  :^D
Surprised I only had this song down for an 8.  This is one of Beck's best "grooves" and I haven't grown tired of it after 100 listens in 5 years.

8 —> 9
If Beck refrained from singing on any of his songs, I might consider his experimentalism not only commendable, but also listenable. As it is now, I cannot stand him.

Another winnah from Beck!

He works with what gets submitted and as far as I know, he doesn't edit. If you have a more complete version, submit it!  There's always room for improvement. {#Mrgreen}  (P.S. - if you have a longer version, I urge you to upload it for review. I love this song, and a longer version, in my opinion, would be more than welcome.) {#Sunny}

Pardon my French, but the testosterone runs thick lately...The Cure, that is FUNNY...

Very good song from a very good album.

I believe 100% that Beck is getting better with age.
His last few albums are his best work!

His earliest albums were amazing, but strange and disjointed.  Interesting, captivating but not elegant.  He is definitely maturing as a musician all the time.  His latest works are his most impressive, I feel.
This is an amazing album.

This one is starting to grow on me...7 > 8{#Sunny}
Thanks for playing more Beck.   The more I HEAR, the more I LIKE.
Musical Scientology?
Very good song from a very good album.

A creative juggernaut, I'd say.
I remember thinking," OK Beck, you got me, I give up".

I wish the final awesome second wasnt cut off.
Overall, I'd say I'm a Beck fan.
Nice track!
I'm not too familiar with Beck but if all his work is like this album, he's really worth paying attention to.  Thanks again, RP!

Agreed.  I friggin' love this album and love this song.   I just saw him open up the new Club Nokia theatre in LA two weeks ago and the man can rock the house. What a talent! I just wished he would have played SOMETHING from this great album.

I'll "second" the Guero vote (Scarecrow still sends chills!) and say I do like the grooves on some from The Information a lot...

In this day and age, the fact that anybody subscribes to or believes in religion of any kind, boggles my mind. Scientology is in a completely different "what the f#*k?!!!" category all together. Are people really that stupid?
Such a strange strange man. But I really really love his music.
if this bass line doesn't get you bopping and humming, you must be ded...
For some reason i have neglected Beck from my record/cassette/cd/mp3 collection . Can someone convince me to dive in .From the very diverse inventive tracks that i have heard and not realised who they were by i have been impressed. On that score alone i should have brought Beck by now. Apart from Odelay(?) name me two albums that i can dive into that shows beck at his best?? I await replies!!
Oh and for those of you keeping score at home- there is no album cover per se. He just gives you a bunch of really wierd stickers and a gridded CD cover so you can make "your own" CD cover. Gotta love Beck
That bit near the end reminds me of "The acid Queen" from Tommy
beck rules
Great transition from Yo La Tengo. I thought the YLT song was Beck at first.
The complete ending is back! Thanks, Bill.
very, very nice....

Nice segue to the Bongos!

I love that this CD comes with a sheet of stickers to make your own cover. Once again Beck does something totally unusual and original.
Not only that, but I've seen 4 different sets of stickers so far.. I've yet to see duplicated sticker sheets!
As with a few other artists Beck raises the question in my head "Is he the Emperors New Clothes". I tend to like what i hear, when i don't know who's track it is!!
I don't normally like Beck very much, but this is a damn good song!

Definitely, for me, his best disc. I've warmed to him greatly because of it.
This whole album, with the exception of the last song, is perfection.
Hooray for truncation! (Actually, as Beck goes, this one was fairly tolerable.)

Actually, Beck was the first item my sweetheart and I had in common. Nicely, we were into completely different albums so we had lots of new Beck to share. Now we've gotten into the new disk at the same time...
The more I listen to this CD, the better it gets. I guess that's typical for Beck.

Yeah! The bassline makes this song....always what catches my ear when I listen to it.
Great original artist/songwriter. Bass makes me boogie!

I agree, possibly the best part of the song.. soooo eerie at the end.. love it.

One of my favorites off the new album. Here's hoping Bill left the ending intact. Oh, and nice choice to follow Vein of Stars by the Lips! Good set we've got goin' on here.
WHOA DJ CUT OFF THE ENDING NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Nice. Love the ending.
love this tune. love this album.
This may be one of my favorite Beck tunes. Nice groove. As someone mentioned, sort of a Beck/Zero 7 mix. NICE!
OK, I've heard enough, I am buying this CD today! Through RP of course!

Great song. Great Album.
hmmmmm. I think I like it.
I don't dislike Beck, but I've never been into him, either. I think I was turned off by the gawdawful way the promotion machine hyped him when he first came out and I never gave him a chance. Don't dislike this song, but it doesn't do much for me, so I guess I'm stuck with my same impression.
Nice combination of ambiant background and driving beat.
Whoa epic ending. awesome!
This song is a little better than the others I've heard so far. Overall, a disapointing follow-up to Guero.
I never thought I'd say this but they play an awful lot of Beck around here. I'm still trying to figure out if there is anything wrong with that.......
why do beck songs always make me look at who it is? look look, dirty crook, stole your mama's pocketbook
Yep. Out next week or the week after that I believe.
Did someone say new?? Woo hoo indeed!! hiphopheart wrote:
