This glancing life is like a morning star
A setting sun, or rolling waves at sea
A gentle breeze or lightning in a storm
A dancing dream of all eternity

The sand was shimmering in the morning light
And dancing off the dunes so far away
The night held music so sweet, so long
And there we lay until the break of day

We woke that morning at the onward call
Our camels bridled up, our howdahs full
The sun was rising in the eastern sky
Just as we set out to the desert's cry

Calling, yearning, pulling, home to you

The tents grew smaller as we rode away
On earth that tells of many passing days
The months of peace and all the years of war
The lives of love and all the lives of fears

Calling, yearning, pulling, home to you

We crossed the river beds all etched in stone
And up the mighty mountains ever known
Beyond the valleys in the searing heat
Until we reached the caravanserai

Calling, yearning, pulling, home to you
Calling, yearning, pulling, home to you

What is this life that pulls me far away
What is that home where we cannot reside
What is that quest that pulls me onward
My heart is full when you are by my side

Calling, yearning, pulling, home to you

I love music!  I find it downright ethereal.

I got to see her in a wonderful venue right before the pandemic hit,  it was a special show! Would see again in a heartbeat
Superb, chilling And fits the world / fusion theme of the channel to a "t". Some many not be "in tune" with her, but Radio Paradise offers such a range of options that it can accomodate anyone in a thematic channel to their taste.

Lol, shang-a -lang.
Her voice speaks to me on a level I was unaware of... Magnificent!
I think I prefer her ode to Elaine of Astolat

Aka Lady of Shalott.
Very good but with the voice of Kate Bush it will be great !
This is first time I have heard this song but the melody was instantly familiar and I knew I had heard something like it recently on RP - then it dawned on me... Donovan "Please don't bend".

So I searched the RP playlist for Donovan songs and went on to YouTube and played that Donovan song again - yep - same melody.

Not a crime - both songs are quite different in their lyrics and meaning but I just thought I would mention this to fellow RP listeners for you to compare and contrast.

By the way I am not complaining - I like this song too and give it a 7.
One of my few "10"s......the music isn't the best...but the overall feel is awesome......toe tapping to say the least
One of the best vocalists out there.
Others on my list:
kd lang
Poe
Tracey Thorn
Love the mood, love her music.  Takes me to a great place and love to hear it when my head is full and sore...very calming.  There is def a place for this music in our busy days.

My feelings exactly..so soft, so subtle, so sweet. westslope wrote:

Quickly fumbled for the 'puter to change channels and escape this song.  Much to my relief and delight - Breathe, by Telepopmusik is on Groove Salad.

This pseudo-whatever-it-is is getting tiresome.
Painful, miserable, slow moving. Shoot me now.
You have to admit she has an interesting, very characteristic vocal style. While she doesn't have a whole lot of range as an artist, I'm quite happy hearing a song from her every now and then.
Make that a very nice set of 4 songs on the same theme.

I, too, saw her a few years back, and it was unbelievable.  The couple we took with had never heard of her, and they were blown away.  What a great talent she is, with superb musicians that create an unforgettable musical experience.  Every song I hear of hers reminds me of that evening.  Sorry you don't like it.

I saw her in Boulder about 15 years ago and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Superb musicianship, great selection of songs. I have a lot of her music, but didn't know this one, so thank you. Nice piece.
all is great until she sings
The best version of this song is the live version, which can be found on the latest release: "nights from the Alhambra" - highly recommended! All the instruments blend so well together, and the hurdy-gurdy is so much fun to watch being played! There's also the tambla, kanoun, lyra, ones I'd heard of before but never seen in action. What fun!

I was listening to the intro of this while doing something else... and looked to see...of course. I thought I was in the still of dawn on some Moroccan plain in a Sultans tent there for a minute. Lovely!
Enjoyable song... Less so once she starts singing.
That was on VH1, so it hardly counts... celadonstone wrote:

This is a wonderful album. It is perfect for late nights, candle lights and a rhythm to help you...well, do whatever it is you are doing late at night with candles on...

Right on, MG
I think I must have been living on another planet or something as I don't recall this artist at all. I am being severely influenced by this radio station and it's just too bad I'm not in town to enjoy it more, so I'll take this oppertunity of thanking several ordinary people for encouraging me to join up and also a big thank you must go to Radio Paradise for introducing me to such fine music. I do like Loreena McKennit very much. This track does so remind me of another time, another place and fond memories they are.

Blech. Meh. I can find something to love about just about every artist played here on RP... EXCEPT for Loreena McKennitt, and her separated-at-birth twin, Kate Bush, too. Both are just too treacly (and, as someone stated eloquently below, melodramatic) for my taste. Mind you, this is coming from a theatre gal who's been described more than once as a "drama queen"...!
boring mass-produced pap she should stick to abusing her own culture (imho - ha ha)
Intro sounds like intro to Strangelove Addiction.
The intro sounds like something from the Princess Bride soundtrack – inconceivable!
oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh........ aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh........ reminds me of the crucifiction of a siamese cat in heat....... meeeeeeoooooooooowwwwwwwww.......

If it makes you feel any better, Wikipedia says that Loreena is only 10 years younger then Sandy Denny would be, were she alive. That's not a huge gap. Their careers have just risen at different times.
The more I listen to this cd, the more I like it. Such a beautiful voice!

Dear Mrs Oompah Loompah, RP is real cool... Honest. Yes the old man may indeed have too much time on his hands, that not withstanding, try it, you'll like it!
Got this album for chrissie! thanx Bill!

Hence the album title...
I like her stuff when I'm in just the right mood... but doesn't it seem a little out of place here on RP?

LOL! Its true though, I quite enjoy Loreena and I've always done, but this album brings nothing new to her repertoir m'afaid.

That's about the size of it - World Music Lite. Pleasant enough, but goes in one ear and out the other without leaving any sign of its passing. Of the tunes on this album played by RP, the only one that's at all engaging is the one (can't remember the title) where yer woman doesn't sing at all. The instrumentals are quite good, but her inane lyrics really detract from the songs. IMHO, naturally :)

melody sounds straight out of Clothes of Sand.
She offers FLAC and good quality DRM free digital albums from her website. Even if you don't like her music (I do to a point) the web site is really a good model for other artists- a great service.
I must agree not much going on here djinnthespazz wrote:

you either like this stuff or you don't.. I do some listeners make little pukey faces every time anything remotely jazz like is played here, some guys are boob men, others like lots of junk in the trunk...I love that Bill puts something out here for everyone
Such a beautiful voice! I've seen her in person; she's a wonderful performer with great musicians playing strange instruments behind her.

I bet you also hate Mozart because he never recorded a punk album.

sweet cover.
A new album, cool!
Delicious! Neat that she's trying heavier percussion. Gotta pick this new one up. Thanks for this one, Bill.
