I wish I was a willow
And I could sway to the music in the wind
And I wish I was a lover
I wouldn't need my costumes and pretend
I wish I was a mountain
I'd pass boldly thru the clouds and never end
I wish I was a soft refrain
When the lights were out I'd play
And be your friend
I strut and fret my hour upon the stage
The hour is up
I have to run and hide my rage
I'm lost again
I think I'm really scared
I won't be back at all this time
And have my deepest secrets shared

I'd like to be a willow
A lover, a mountain or a soft refrain

But I'd hate to be a grown-up
And have to try to bear my life in pain

I wish I was a soft refrain
When the lights were out I'd play
And be your friend
I strut and fret my hour upon the stage
The hour is up
I have to run and hide my rage
I'm lost again
I think I'm really scared
I won't be back at all this time
And have my deepest secrets shared

I'd like to be a willow
A lover, a mountain or a soft refrain
But I'd hate to be a grown-up
And have to try to bear my life in pain

Love Phoebe Snow, first heard her voice on a Paul Simon album from a long time ago.
Thanks for the daily schooling... This is wonderful.
I feel like Lisa Simpson would love to play sax with her on this song.
The amount of amazing artists played on RP and unknown anywhere else is staggering!!!
nice.
Thanks for playing this.
not my music, however a wonderful person.
Wow, listened to this great tune on the way to work today. Phoebe passed away last week, one of my all time greatest blues singers. CBS did a feature on her life on Sunday Morning on CBS and told the story of her daughter that was nearly asphixiated at birth by and error of the doctor and or the procedure and how her daughter was pegged as not going to live.

(Excerpt from Wikipedia)
Snow resolved not to institutionalize her but instead care for her at home, which she did until Valerie died on March 18, 2007 at the age of 31. Snow's efforts to care for Valerie greatly and negatively affected her professional career, nearly ending it.<9> Snow continued to take voice lessons, and she studied opera informally.<9>
Hope RP eventually plays some of her recordings. Beauty surrounds her music, though sadness sometimes fills it as well.
