Oh yeah
The world's turned upside down
Jimmy Finn is out
Well how can that be fair at all

Lenient
The song the lawyer sang
Our nation's wrong

Well how can that be fair at all
Repented, changed
Aware where I have wronged

Unfound corrupt
This song the jailor sings
My time has run

Sound the victim's song
The trial is gone
The trial goes on

Sound the victim's song

RP...thank you again.
hard to believe mark is gone...such a loss.
Any time there is an opportunity for listening to them I'm remembering the struggles I was fighting with their and this kind of music. Today, growing older, I don't understand myself anymore, because of listening this kind of music any single day.

EXCELLENT!!  Thanx RP!
Mark Hollis/Talk Talk are gold standard for any period…
Talk Talk are musical legends. They are the original beating heart of whatever we call “Post Rock,” but why not just ignore genres and call it highly evolved music. It took me a long time to get into this album because it was such a strange collision of so much different music. But when it finally hit me, I felt like it had been with me all my life. I also really respect Mark Hollis’ approach to his career. His early retirement frustrated all of us - the fans - who wanted more music. In one of his extremely rare interviews he explained that he could not be both a travelling “rock star” and still be a good father to his two young sons. It was so tragic to lose him permanently. This kind of genius and good heart is too rare.
One of the finest pieces of popular music ever recorded from one of the finest albums ever conceived. In 300 years from now, students of music will study this.
That harp will just destroy you. I wish we could fight wars with music. Then the healing would be a solid stone set-up. Probably wouldn't even call it war anymore. Maybe call it done with...
solid 10 the entire album,, put on your headphones and chill out!
i could listen to talk talk all day. each album from start to finish.
Brilliance - 10 - Rip Mark...
This whole album AND the album Laughing Stock are in regular late-night-whisky-in-hand-dark-room rotation. Absolutely incredible works of art.
I would if I could.  I hope that you still  do that, if you can.

This site is a goldmine for great music, and playing Spirit of Eden is the proof of that.
One of the most underrated band.
RIP Mark Hollis
Absolutely fabulous tune.  One for the ages.  No wonder I have already rated it a 10.
They were a very underrated act. I was a fan of them 25 years ago.

Their popular songs "It's my Life" and "Life's what you make it" were enough to draw me in.  Brilliant songs, proving commercial success doesn't preclude a song from being extraordinary.
tententen all day long

may have to put the album on

Can hear Spiritualized taking notes from this for LAGWAFIS album - specifically Cop Shoot Cop

Agree. Except this isn't fm radio in Cleveland or wherever. "Late at night" isn't fixed across the whole RP listening audience. Maybe Bill could add world time zone channels :-)
The more I hear this tune, the more I like it!!  Thank You RP!

A wonder of timeless beauty and work of rare genius
They've some great tracks but I hate to say that it's difficult to get excited about this at all.  Ho hum all the way. Sorry.
Music to fully immerse yourself into this wonderful soundscape✌️
Amazing work! Easy 10! Praise to RP as I would never have stumbled upon this record or any of their other music. By the way, this record is best suited to late night listening.
Sublime just edges a little nearer to a description of this.
Song is 8 minutes long... about 20 minutes too short. Listening to the entire album puts me in a state.

Awesome band. Loved this album but I feel Hollis did start to lose it later in life. His music started to get real weird!
Great album!
Interesting that Talk Talk generates so few negative comments.

Which in my book merely reinforces my view that they are one of the top 5 bands of all time.
I have never heard this (thanks BillG!) I had no idea these pop stars could be so melodic and atmospheric Love it

It's certainly up there, largely because their work before and the one album after sounded nothing like this ephemeral beauty.

RIP Mark Hollis.

Excellent quote.  It says more about his feelings about music than about the general state of the musical world.  Personally, a background stream of instrumentals takes the edge off the tinnitus.

One should never listen to Mark Hollis as background music.  Ever.

I always loved this comment and every time I hear the beginning notes I go in my head "This is my church call"
I've never heard this song before. I'm spellbound.
"Before you play two notes, learn how to play one note. And don't play one note unless you've got a reason to play it."

You played one note like no other, Mark. RIP.

Wow, at 6 plays for this, 3 for Eden and 4 for  I Believe in You in the last 30 days on the Main Mix alone, you're in for $260. You are a die-hard RP supporter indeed!

In the SF Bay Area, I hear this and other Talk Talk songs played in stores quite often (at least relative to the expected frequency of such an event). Evan as background, it has power.
The most underrated album of all time.
I will admit that it took me, even as a major TT fan, some time to get used to this album when it was released.  On the heals of some incredible, and more commercial, material.  But when it hit, it really stuck.  I would later come to understand why so many of the world's musicians put TT on a pillar and why they had become so revered.

I will say that over the years I would search for more and more  (band info, Mark Hollis info, music, back stories, etc.).  So little info in public about this great band...but isn't that how Mark Hollis really wanted it?  Less can be more...how refreshing.  Resulted in what could be the best band nobody's heard of (or remembers).

Chills. Every time. RIP Mark Hollis.
Love this..............as a bonus it is THE piece that my son and I completely connected on.  Our tastes are different. He holds Pink Floyd and the Dead in the highest regard.  I think I appreciate them but don't share his enthusiasm.  It is hard for him to understand how I can't see it.   But I see this.  Thanks again Bill.

Where is an 11 when you need it?
I bought the album right after it was released. Unfortunately I couldn't do anything with this album, which was overly complex for me at the time.
I should have taken more time for this.
R.I.P. Mark Hollis, you will stay great!

Mark Hollis.: "To me the ultimate ambition is to make music that doesn't have a use by date, that goes beyond your own time." He added: "Technique has never been an important thing to me. Feeling always has been, and always will be, above technique."
Talk Talk fans... check out former band members & TT touring musicians as "Spirit of Talk Talk" in new recordings (recorded while social distancing) and released in videos for frontline workers' charities. They've released 2 newly recorded/mixed tunes with videos here, as of  May 17, 2020:

I love you RP when you play a track that takes my breathe away, this is one of them.  Just a beautiful track.  Check out EOB RP fans.
This is blinking awsome. I'd forgotten all about it.
Just got this on Vinyl and spun the entire thing.  Really good.

Don't worry about you not liking them.  Your taste is your taste, and my taste is mine.

I think this tune is really, really good.  I can see folks objecting to the vocal timbre, but the instrumental work and overall atmosphere are outstanding.

This one is perfect for those mellow after-midnight sessions with a good Scotch.

I had no idea about this until I saw this post, what a great shame. Mark Hollis and the rest of the band are one of the greatest musical talents to emerge from the UK . Always recognisable but totally unique. What an amazing legacy of tracks he has left behind.

Mark may have passed away but RP will ensure his music will live on.

And it needs to in the 3 minute sound bite music world we now have in the 21st Century.

True, but the "three-minute song" format has existed since the beginnings of recorded music; it is not an innovation or deviation of the 21st Century.
This entire album is magical. It's a slow-burn, but so worth the wait.

The last half hour has been a string of 9s and 10s in my ratings and I've been thinking "Thanks, Bill! hope this means the pledge drive is going well".

Gee Mark, Some of us have to work for a living!   Or simply get things done around the house and we do enjoy music in the background. Besides, some excellent music works really well  as both background and actively listened-to music.

Talk Talk is terrific cross country road music.  I switch in and out of paying attention to it depending on the scenery and road conditions.

Otherwise:  10^3 thanks for the terrific music!    We will still be listening to your music and talking about you when your grandchildren have gray hair.
Anyone else keep hearing Six Blade Knife by Dire Straits with the bass line and rhythm?
 Repose en paix Mark. REP
Thank you for playing all this great Talk Talk music lately.  Love this album.
I never tire of this album. Downloaded everything i did not have by Mark Hollis and Co. since his death. I was missing out on a lot of great music. Incredibly talented man.
