I'm feelin' mighty lonesome
Haven't slept a wink
I walk the floor from nine to four
In between I drink
Black coffee
Love's a hand-me-down brew
I'll never know a Sunday
In this weekday room

I'm talkin to the shadow
One o'clock till four
And Lord, how slow the moments go
And all I do is pour
Black coffee
Since the blues caught my eye
I'm hangin' out on Monday
My Sunday dreams to dry

Now man was born to go a lovin'
But was a woman born to weep and fret
And stay at home and tend her oven
And drown her past regrets
In coffee and cigarettes

I'm moonin' all the mornin'
Moanin' all the night
And in between it's nicotine
And not much heart to fight
Black coffee
Feelin' low as the ground
It's drivin' me crazy
This thinkin' 'bout my baby
Might maybe come around
Come around

Shadowland was produced by Owen Bradley who was one of C&W's best producers doing Patsy Clines big hits so it was a natural for him teaming up with k.d. especially since Patsy was huge influence on k.d. The whole album is great if ya don't mind a lil C&W influence

... k.d. lang & the reclines

Welcome to the smoky, dark cocktail lounge, circa 1953.  There's whiskey on the rocks on the table in front of you, and a new Studebaker "Loewy coupe" in the parking lot, and all is right with the world.

Wow, what a descriptive image!  I'm so there - in a booth with that deep-tuck leather upholstery, and I have my feet up and my eyes closed...  Mmmm.  May tomorrow never come, because I'm loving the now so much... {#Music}
If you like KD's version of this song, try Sinead O'Connor's version.
I'm not crazy about this song, but K.D. does marvellous things with it — 8.

...always kind of reminds me of a song from one of those Las Vegas female impersonator shows.  Of course, personally, I have never been to one...maybe, one day.
I just adore her voice.

NO, Joe McCarthy is after you!
I'm not usually a big KD Lang fan but this I really like {#Music}

I can!

hand me the mallet and direct me to the gong
Saw her live in concert. Without a doubt, by far the best live vocal performance I have EVER experienced.

sweet

Outstanding! This is such a good album! Turn it up!
Oh, KD ... what a voice, all over the bar like silk ... It's driving me crazy!
Whoa! I thought I wasn't a fan of KD Lang.

Best pure vocal style since Ella? She's in the running...
Sexy even for us guys!

Shadowland is one of my favorite albums.  Would love to hear more songs from it (Busy Being Blue?) on RP.  Great torch songs, Western Swing, etc.

This song is about as far from "sucking" as a song can get.

don't like this song.

No matter who sings it

It just draaaaaags in the most annoying way. I know that's sort of the point, but ugh.

You are right, it just sucks
My goodness kd, hon if you're feelin' lonely, I'd be ever so happy to keep you company!
Lyle Lovett in drag?

*runs away
Damn what a voice, Lady slings the blues like it's second nature to her.

A long time favorite.  And people say there was no good music made in the 80's.

This is the kind of music she should have always been singing. It's perfect for her voice.

Oh Jag, I forgot about Maria's version! Yes, Maria's take on this song is awesome.

Very nice, but Maria Muldaur's version is steamy.
Wow, at first I thought this was an old Julie London recording.  I've only heard Ella's version.  This is very, very nice!
first comment... sounds good.
sweeeet, yet bittersweet xoxoxo
