Where am I tonight?
My hotel room won't remember me
And this dream will die, die by morning
And this dream will not remember me

Awakened by a droning voice
"I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes"
Is it a lady? Or is it a man?
Humming helicopters through the blades of a fan
I love your long shadows and your gun powder eyes
I love your long shadows and your gun powder eyes

On my feet to chase it down
The light switch spooks and runs away
I stumble back and hit the floor
Long shadows crawl beneath the door
To a passage
So poorly lit
There are moths flying away from it

Who am I tonight?
My hotel room won't remember me
From darkness enter prison girls
Pushing mops and kicking pails
Now's my chance, I clasp my chest
And declare unto my audience
"I love your long shadows and your gun powder eyes"
"I love your long shadows and your gun powder eyes"

The prison girls are not impressed
They're the ones who have to clean this mess
They've traded more for cigarettes than I have managed
To express

Filing past
Miles long
My cheek is frozen to the floor
The prison girls have filled their beds
Their thoughts to dry above their heads
(I'll wear them in the morning)

I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes
I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes
I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes
I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes
I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes
I love your long shadows and your gunpowder eyes

That is no excuse, we all live in it, some of us are nice and some are not. It is on us. This song is weird, kinda like it, but not Neko overall.

Makes me think of Pris in Bladerunner.

How about this one; How many Neko Case haters does it take to screw in a light bulb?

None, because they'd rather sit in the dark than see the light. {#Idea}

Cheers!

Nice prison girls

Sounds like it, to me. Also? Pon....der....ous.....

Just saw Neko and Co. on Wednesday — she and Kelly really stunned with the vocals on this one
I gotta admit, I am very dissapointed in this new release.{#Sad} I like her more when she does country, it suits her voice more. Although, this song is pretty cool.

A 7 on the title alone, but there is something quite infectious about this song as well.

hahahahhahahaaaaa!!
Still deciding how i feel about the song but i love the sleeve art on her album.

OK i think i quite like the music too.
Each time I hear her I love her more!

please, no more neko!

this song is driving me mad

Do you mean 'Phat'? She's certainly all that

Geeze, she's good.  And props to the band. They're superb as well.  I'd compare this tune to Deep Red Bells musically.  I'm diggin' it.
I'm no expert, but does she seem a little flat?
Loving these dark, haunting sets. Bring on the minor keys!
One of my student assistants recommended Neko Case a year or so ago and I've liked much of everything she's done, especially those from the CD, "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood."

As this CD has finally started to grow on me, I've come to think of this song as the latest installement in a kind of musical trilogy over three albums: Deep Red Bells, Star Witness, and Prison Girls... they all seem to tie in with each other even as the rest of the albums show a lot of change between each.

Love how she hangs those soaring creative melodic vocals over the scant backing rhythmn track.
Love your gunpowder eyes!
Pure harmonic soul.
The album becomes addictive

Neko Case and I get a country-music vibe from it without realizing

country, I'm not drawn to it.  She does have an impressive voice, though.

Her music is sometimes labeled "Alternative Country", though labels generally mean very little.

This is too rehashy. I already have Fox Confessor.

Maybe she'll pull up in my driveway looking like this?

Nope; I just have heard too much Neko Case lately.  I'm not a hater, really... I just don't get this artist, and she's played a LOT.
It's official. Radio Paradise has become The Neko Case Radio Network. Booo.

Love for the new album.  Neko is in a world of her own, and I like to go there :)
Oohhhh... Neko is such a cool, cool kitty. Her music is both intensely dreamy and immensely genuine all at once. I'm so appreciative of her existence in the world of music. Yes indeed.

I was curious about the authenticity of her voice since she used so much reverb in previous albums.  Then I saw her this week in Raleigh - wow ! Power, intonation, clarity, and remarkable ability hit the same tones live that you hear on this album (with less reverb).

Nice, laid-back live show. No pretense or theatrics - just Neko power.

As for this song:  It was not my initial favorite on the new album, but let it sink in after 2-3 listens.  As another post said, it is one of her longest and musically more complex songs.

I saw her at Austin City Limits. I agree that she has an amazing voice. I guess the thing that's missing is subtlety. To my ears It sounds like she belts out pretty much everything (even on background vocals w/New Pornographers).
This is just all over the place in an annoying way—and her voice (to me) is like nails on a chalkboard. {#Headache} Guess we can't like everyone.

That happens when an already heavily playlisted artist releases a new album.  When Radiohead released In Rainbows, I thought I was gonna hurl.

And I am a big Neko fan, but this particular tune, not so much.

Geeze, Neko is soooo good.  Lots of credit to the band and the compositional diversity.

Well my ears are perked to hear more from this album.  And what with Bill's crush on Neko, it's certain to happen. :P
As someone else said, all of her songs are starting to sound the same. Except this one, which sounds worse. The lurching, halting cadence of the song makes me feel like I'm riding a bicycle just a little too slowly to keep my balance. And don't get me started on the banal lyrics.

We're seeing her in April in a venue that holds maybe 1,000 people.  Should be good.

"Long shadows and gunpowder eyes" - evocative imagery. Nice for a change that she's not using any reverb on here. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

Seems purposefully stalled, and it does not come off well in my opinion . . .

Normally, I like Neko a lot. This one does not do much for me. Keep the bridge Neko, re-write the rest.
Ponderous.

Prison girls eh {#Ask} .... not exactly the kind you want to bring home to meet your parents {#Biggrin}. This is one strange song {#Stupid} but, as usual, Neko forges her own path and she sounds terrific! {#Music}

Yeah, I agree.  I'd joust with Neko any where, any time. ;)  She seems to enjoy working with photographers based on the rather interesting work available of her on the Internet.  She's definitely my kinda woman... {#Yes}

So happy to see a new album from Neko. Amazing voice.
not one of the better songs on this cd.
Good god.

Horrible singing and a stupid song.  How fun!

{#Rolleyes}

May have to take an RP vacation until this POS CD gets off the 'hot' rotation.  Unbearable.

Nice!

Did you see her on Leno last night?
This song is one of Neko Case's longest, if not the longest. Its really good. A lot of her songs seem to end right as they are getting good, or end abruptly making me feel like they could have gone for at least another minute or so. This one seems perfect to me. One of my favorite tracks off the new album.
