The English skyline
Falls down to the future
No one noticed
In this Empire

Cause I'm the greatest denier
And I will cut you if you look

The English bloodline
Clashes in the sun
No one noticed
We are coming down

Well I'm the greatest denier
But I can cut you with a look

Clashes in the sun
Don't speak of it

I'm the greatest denier
I was the greatest denier
And I can cut you with a look

Clashing in the sun
Start a revolution

Couldn't sleep since then
Wake you up when we're done

Not to wax political on this forum but ah contraire....this song has high relevance to discerning Americans.  Our POTUS is our greatest denier.  He lives in a fantasy world where he is the greatest there has ever been.  For all that he is a reflection of us, although I'd like to hope it's a minority view.

In any case Kings die, and new Kings ascend the throne.  History is replete with examples.  In our case we're handing those new Kings in waiting the opportunity on a golden, T embossed, plate.  The American Empire is being led by fools, and everyone is standing around letting them assassinate our national character with nary so much as a "Halt there!"  If we fall we get what we deserve.

So it goes.  And sorry for the political aside.  Overall a nice tune

Sometimes the Kings overestimate their influence. Their heads are trotted around the streets on a pike.
Doves never did anything wrong. Early stuff was super atmospheric, almost thought provoking. Isn't it crazy how a chord sequence can invoke certain emotions. Never fails to amaze me, the power of music.

This pretty much also describes the previous president.  Fake Roman columns and all.

Good song, though.

Some British people like to pretend that we are still a force to be reckoned with - the rest of us know the sad truth.  This does not have immediate relevance to those of you who live in the USA - but imagine a future where China and India whose populations total about 2 billion start to become dominant and their global influence starts to relegate the USA to a former superpower. Far fetched - maybe not...

Yeah, well, all the talk about what Doves sounds like aside. This particular song REALLY sounds like something from Amplifier {#Cheesygrin}

All I hear is weak vocals, weak guitar playing, weak drumming, boring lyrics....no hooks...following the same ole "thud and drone" formuia started back in the early 1990s and has led rock music to become way too predictable and "mono-sounding".

But I guess that's why rap and country music are the two most popular music genres with people under 30 and why the most popualr rock acts are bands with average age of 60.
Rock music RIP!

One of the greatest things to come out of 2009. I don't really like their previous stuff, but this record is just awesome, entirely, from beginning to end. How come I don't hear it anywhere else? Thanks RP for playing it for me! :)

This song is a much better Coldplay song than Coldplay could ever write.
gets better with each listen... 8 -> 9
Gets better each time I hear it, 8->9.
"Denier?" Looked like this song was about nylon stockings.
Clever band, you can't pigeon hole them, ....journeymen (there you go)
reminds me of Ravel's Bolero

Funny, the friend who initially turned me on to the Doves (prior to discovering Radio Paradise if I recall), first turned me onto ColdPlay.  Both sounded good on mist-shrouded early mornings in the Fraser Canyon.

Something about the Doves though.  For some strange reason, they remind me of the Strawbs.

Coldplay could only dream of ever being this good.
This song is sooooooo good for the ears.....{#Smile}

This will be at 10 until I find some reason for it not to be.
It can't be denied that this is a good song!

I think there's a cream you can get for that. HA!  The fun never stops at RP. Seriously this is an excellent CD.

Damn, this group grows on me every time I hear them.
Sorry to sound old fashioned, but the production on this album is so fantastic, there is no way a compressed format can give back all the intensity.  A true work of love and one of the recent records that deserve full home system CD listening.  But that's only advice, that you (we) enjoy it is the main thing, right?

Funny enough, on this particular song he sounds more like Tears for Fears than Coldplay. Either way, all of the comparisons are exceptional company to be in.

I understand.  Coldplay has a significantly higher profile, recognition factor.

Never bought a Coldplay CD, but I bought this Doves CD.

P.S.  This song keeps getting better after multiple listens.

Agreed.

A buddy forwarded me some airmile points he couldn't use now that he is living and working in the Land of the Strong and Free, and I downloaded the entire CD.  Solid.

Perhaps the Dove's most unlike Coldplay effort to date.  And, hey, I like Coldplay.
