Well I wonder
Do you hear me when you sleep ?
I hoarsely cry
Oh...

Well I wonder
Do you see me when we pass ?
I half die...
Oh...

Please keep me in mind
Please keep me in mind

Gasping - but somehow still alive
This is the fierce last stand of all I am

Gasping - dying - but somehow still alive
This is the final stand of all I am

Please keep me in mind

Well I wonder
Well I wonder
Please keep me in mind
Keep me in mind
Keep me in mind

I know he's an acquired taste, but an important album for me

Sorry, no Smiths for me but i'm finding PSD is too slow to react, so while i'm typing this i've got my iTunes on.
Today i'm playing 'Race With The Devil' by Girlschool. Just have to wait til the 'now playing' display on RP changes, & i'll be back.

Interesting!

A wonderful song from a fantastic album.  This would be one of my "desert island discs."

Not that unusual in Europe as well, just smiled about it today seeing it on people tramping through slush of snow. ;)
Started some years ago afaik, and if they feel comfy about it, who cares or even judges? What a nice and colorful world we got.{#Cheers}

Fumes from crude oil are heavily toxic to lungs, skin, and ... brains.

The age of responsibility was raised to 30, but I don't think you can blame that on The Smiths.
Arrgghh!  The smiths!  Burn it with fire!

Really? I suspect I’ll be sorry I asked, but what do you base this assertion on?

Great Tune {#Bounce}
Great choice - from perhaps their best album, or maybe second best...?!

A classic - great song - even "perfect" - those boys really did write a TON of great songs together - some sound dated now, but a majority (this one) do not - amazing.  Thumbs way up!

{#Notworthy}
This song is incredible.
Great to here this on RP! Wonderful album

If it wasn't for that "social left wing angst" you'd be listening to Nuggent 24/7/365....
and I'm sure he'd be glad to share how he has killed every thing that walks, crawls,
flies, and /or breaths.. sorta that antisocial right wing drivel....and/or  industrial spirituality.

It's a good song by a great band.
Smiths - Johnny Marr = 0

I'm not sure that he's left wing, going by his many pronouncements and questionable opinions when he was part of The Smiths. For instance, he lately made what many perceived to be a racist jibe at immigrants to the UK which got him into deep water with the chattering classes who give a monkey's what loudmouthed celebs say. See the Wikipedia entry on him, section 2.3, for details of accusations of racism.

The only thing he really gets hot under the collar about is animal rights, which is a cause which lends itself to most shades of opinions. Indeed, some of the more extreme misanthropic animal rightists flirt dangerously with fascism.

To be honest, he really only cares about himself - narcissism is an integral part of his personality, and he's got an ego the size of a planet. He can, though, pen very good songs, the best when he was part of The Smiths. So, a fine songwriter, but an egotistic sanctimonious git who you sure wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with.

I really like Morrissey. A lot of his appeal to me is his voice. A lot of people feel that way about Bob Dylan, but listen to him because his lyrics are very profound. I think The Smiths have some very profound lyrics as well, but in both cases of Morrissey and Dylan, I think their voices are unique and very enjoyable to hear.

That is the only good song the Smiths ever did.

I wish Simon Cowell had a talk with Morrisey when he was younger and convinced him he could not sing, because he can';t. Maybe stick with the written word would've been better.

Yeah, we need a meaningless charlatan like Simon Cowell to dictate who should or should not make music.  I guess you must have all latest recordings from the "remarkable" talents who appeared on that mindless TV show.

LUSH indeed!

Lush is a word that sounds best falling from the pretty mouth of Stacey (the one below in blue, from UK comedy 'Gavin & Stacey)

Lush:
one of Stacey's favorite sayings. Lush means awesome or decadent. It's a phrase that conveys many meanings (all good ones) depending on the situation at hand.

My father was a lush, but I'm pretty sure that's not the same thing. {#Drunk}

Hearing this reminds me why Morrissey without Marr just never resonated with me. This album is a beauty.

WONDERfull. Johnny Marr's guitarsound is brilliant. A good contrast to the Weltschmerz of Morrissey.

Awesome song! What a surprise to be on RP!

Meat Is Murder is the Smiths' sophomore album. It came out on February 14, 1985, following their 1984 self-titled debut.
25 years!

The Smiths are best served in small doses. I enjoy them once in a while, like here on RP, but over the course of a whole CD, old Morrissey does start to get on your nerves.

He only knows 5 or 6 notes...{#Rolleyes}

Wow, thanks for reminding me that there is more than one good Smiths song.

One of my favorite, "awkward out of place teen aged" ballads of all times. Complete with soothing rain sounds.

Didn't Mojo Nixon record a song about Steven Morrissey?
Prettier falsetto than Roy Orbison for sure.
first one first one first one - love the smiths!!
