And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
A hand-me-down dress from who knows where
To all tomorrow's parties
And where will she go, and what shall she do
When midnight comes around
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown and cry behind the door
And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
Why silks and linens of yesterday's gowns
To all tomorrow's parties
And what will she do with Thursday's rags
When Monday comes around
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown and cry behind the door
And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
For Thursday's child is Sunday's clown
For whom none will go mourning
A blackened shroud
A hand-me-down gown
Of rags and silks - a costume
Fit for one who sits and cries
For all tomorrow's parties
To all tomorrow's parties
A hand-me-down dress from who knows where
To all tomorrow's parties
And where will she go, and what shall she do
When midnight comes around
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown and cry behind the door

I'm just in love with John Cale's voice.
I read the lyrics and thought of Edie.
So happy this came up on My Favorites today. Haven't heard it in 10 yrs or more.

<Edit:>
Still under the table and laughing....
Nico version please
One of my fav VU tunes! I absolutely love Lou Reeds guitar in this one! Even though I prefer the original with Nico, the song is so fantastic as long as Lou is pumpin out that riff, 10!
Ummm,.... they were pretty influential.
It was said that probably only 10,000 people bought their albums initially. But they all started a band. Perhaps a mild exageration

I wish they would stay under ground. Never understood why people listen to these guys. Then again, I also don't understand why old men pull their socks up so high...just a matter of taste, I guess.

I was looking at the songs you rated (that 18 Dogs song was great, wasn't it?) and I can see why you like this.
June Tabor did a version of this with the Oysterband that's okay; the original is sung by a woman named Nico (who was in the Velvet Undrground for a while) who had a cool icy voice. If you like this, you are kind of required to delve deeper into their world further—-much later music was influenced by them.
Horrible.

just a thought....but who do you think would be best to cover Nico's parts?
this sounds more like "all tomorrow's hangovers"!

It's their song, they wrote it , they can sing it. I have the demos and I need to check whether it was John or Lou on the demo.
This is... horrifying. There is a version by Rapsutina that is beautiful. Play that instead!

John Cale.
Indeed. Saw him more than 15 years or so in a very small club in Chicago and he hit it that night. Amazing.

Wow - both at 1152 Pacific - a tie
since Nico was on vocals originally and she's dead, I think John (Cale) is acceptable in this case

Wow, two no comments yet songs in a row!!! Is Bill feeling the Christmas spirit and handing out new music for our aural consumption.
This doesn't sound like Louie, at least on the vocals.
Refreshing, but a little disappointing. I love Lou.

A great one by the band that they couldn't not play on the reunion tour.

To each their own. And not only is it gibberish, its random keystokes. But yeah, you basically get it.

Jesus, I thought it was Shane McGowan or something... though now that I listen closer it's far to well enunciated for Shane...

Remember, as a picky kid, thinking Lou Reed's voice wasn't that great.
That was longer ago than the gap from '93 to when they were in their prime.
yikes
