She's bound to run amok,
Invested enough in it anyhow,
To each his own...
The garden needs sorting out,
She curled her lips on a bough,
And I don't know if you're dead or not,
If you're anyone...
Come on and get the minimum,
Before you open up your eyes,
This army has so many heads,
To analyze...
Come on and get your overdose,
Collect it at the borderline,
They want to get up in your head,
Cause they know and so do I,
The high road is hard to find,
A detour to your new life,
Tell all of your friends goodbye,
The dawn to end all nights,
That's all you hoped it was,
A break from the warfare in your house,
To each his own...
The soldier is bailing out,
He curled his lips on a barrel,
And I don't know if the dead can talk,
To anyone...
Come on and get the minimum,
Before you open up your eyes,
This army has so many heads,
Are you one of us?
Come on and get your overdose,
Collect it at the borderline,
They want to get up in your head,
Cause they know, and so do I,
The high road is hard to find,
A detour to your new life,
Tell all of your friends goodbye,
It's too late to change your mind,
You let loss be your guide...
It's too late to change your mind,
You let loss be your guide...
It's too late to change your mind,
You let loss be your guide...
It's too late to change your mind,
You let loss be your guide...
How the vagaries of existence toy with us! By the time this was getting hot on RP, I was getting tangled up with an incredibly vivacious but ultimately unstable gal down in Denver, and we couldn't get enough of it. The ending of the song really slays me now, just as the end of our time together did... Love and loss, like gravity, are inescapable. But, I maintain, like the projections of Divine Light that we are, we must keep on dancing!
'Love is all around me' at the end
It sounds similar but it's a different chord progression.
Here is the song this lyric at the end reminds me of:
The Troggs- Love is all around

It's not the lyric but the sound and the tempo that seem similar to me.
Not sure I recognize a similarity, but "Love Is All Around" is hands-down the best Troggs song. It has some similarity to the chords of "Wild Thing" but stands above it musically and emotionally (though both songs are 10s for me, for different reasons).

I hear it too.

Hey! that's "Christmas is all around us."
Don't you find the hole rather small?
Zing!
How can this song be 11 years old already?
This is the effect of music being timeless - not the more figurative sense of "..a box set of 50 timeless classics!", but in the more literal sense of sounding plausibly current years after being produced.
Not all great music is timeless, and not all timeless music is great; though timeless pieces are usually quite good.
A fine example of timelessness is Nick Drake's canon. Play that for someone who has not heard it previously, and who would guess that it is 50 years old?
Don't you find the hole rather small?
This comment made my day.
My 7th grade son plays percussion in the school band. He can't play this.
Don't you find the hole rather small?
Wasn't that a Lionel Ritchie song?
I've never noticed it before, but I swear I hear his voice near the end of the song.
So very glad they have released a second & hope for more to come.
Thank you Rp for keeping my love for music alive & wanting to seek further into corners I have not yet traveled.
Cause they know, and so do I

He hires Bouncy Castles in Yorkshire. This is a tribute song. Apparently.

Guess you are American!
Allgäu is beautiful indeed - possibly one of the most beautiful places on the planet*!
SERIOUSLY!

I was working as an intern in an office that had background tunes playing all the time throughout the shared spaces. Every now and then this song would waft my way and I'd stop and TRY to hear some of the lyrics so I could look it up later to find out who the band was! Frustrating...since I could never just stand around and not look busy for enough time to hear anything clearly.
Finally one day I heard it and the radio station identified it! Bought it on iTunes when I got home that day.
Great song!
The entire internet available to you with it's myriad of radio stations and you should choose to whack your head against a wall!... curiouser and curiouser
During work hours, this is the only radio station that I can listen to which makes it even more frustrating. (works firewall). Believe me, I would be listening to WUSC if I could and there would be no whacking my head against the wall I assure you. Not very curious after all.
Hmmm. I hope not. While I like this song and album and dig the stylistic departure for Mercer, I think Shins music is much more interesting unique. I hope they put out another album.
Agree 100% – this album is interesting and pleasant, but doesn't replace the Shins in any way. I hope he releases more music in the Shins vein.

well it's a free country...
if this individual PREFERS to whack their head against the wall...

Hit the road jack, sea legs, sparrow and wolf and now this! Go RP!

Agree. On a couple long road trips recently, I've listened to SirusXM "The Spectrum" channel, which is their closest program to RP. I could count on hearing this at least twice a day! (And everything else, too—their playlist is much smaller and less diverse than RP's, but much overlap.)
the synth riff is cool...
very Telstar

oh yeah!! that one too!
I don't know why but I'm always slightly reminded of Everlast's 'What It's Like" whenever I hear this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPoEA43cqKc. Maybe it's a little bit of a stretch....
listen to TV on the Radio's Will Do some time and see if that one reminds you of that same Everlast song...
Well, there's a Foghat song called "It's Too Late" which contains that phrase, repeated several times. I don't know the song and I bet that's not what you're thinking of, but who knows? It IS a ballad. You can listen here for yourself...
