A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes
I screamed aloud, as it tore through them, and now it's left me blind

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

And in the dark, I can hear your heartbeat
I tried to find the sound
But then it stopped, and I was in the darkness,
So darkness I became

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map
And knew that somehow I could find my way back
Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too
So I stayed in the darkness with you

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

She always tries so hard to make it sound so important, epic, passionate, anthemic.

But ultimately it sounds empty to me. Shouting into the void? Shouting at traffic? I don't get it.
That annoys me totally. Not unlike REM. Skip.

For some reason Florence always brings up images of Janice Joplin to my mind..... Go figure that one out..

I do like what they do though.

For me, it's more like Grace Slick, much more of a pure tone, but the emotion behind it seems more like Janice.  Riveting either way, or both.

Go with the Flo!

Searching any Florence & The Machine song for that always turns up an interesting back & forth discussion.
Now and then, I lke a shouter. And she's got the voice.

Its a powerful song
The stars, the moon, the green clovers
The pink hearts, the blue diamonds
When will the awful shouting stop? Absolutely awful stuff.
I don't mind her singing so much (unlike lots of folks here), but the percussion straight out of Stomp rubs me.  I just see a bunch of fakely-dirty fellas beating on aluminum trash cans and such.  Sorta wrecks the whole lot for me...
This powerhouse band is perfect for her powerhouse voice.

Ah Florence.  Scream on, you Pre-Raphaelite Banshee. Awesome!
First was amazed, then ok, now cannot stand that voice...
Florence puts on an amazing live show.  Check it out if you have the chance!

I cannot bear this person's voice. Terrible.

Congratulations!
I was not surprised to hear that the artist in question had to cancel a tour a while back. She seem like one of those artists that lives at over the top, turn it up to 11, all the time.

I like this in small doses. I don't think I could do a whole Florence album, too exhausting, too much angst in one sitting.

Yeah, where's all this Florence-hating coming from?

I don't really get what problem people have with strong female types.
Yes, she's loud, she's unrestrained. She's singing from the gut.
She's not Kate Bush, She's also not Tina Turner or Merry Clayton. She's Florence.
So f-ing what? Do you want her to don a nurses uniform and hand out sedatives?

You can't just don a nurses uniform.  It has to be earned with years of hard graft.  Pretty much like any artist worth their salt.
I feel bad for anyone who skipped the last song and missed the absolutely genius segue that only Bill Goldsmith can do.

First song I hear when starting work today. I found it's best to get unpleasant things out of the way early. Thanks Bill.
As this came on, my eyes relaxed, my shoulders rolled back and my breathing slowed. I filled my lungs with air and felt lifted.

This is better than ever. Magical, ethereal, cosmic. Love.

It just sucks..thats all...no hate...the yelling all the time gets old real fast...thats all..."strong female types"...is she female or just a type? why the anger? its obviously not on peoples palate. Thats all it is. I dont understand why giving an opinion on music turns into why people hate strong female types? Dont like the voice...plain and simple enough?

I found this song through some kids singing it, and it was awesome.  On youtube.

Maybe because iTunes provides a convenient little pop-up that announces the song, which is nice when you're working and would like to know what's playing without a bigger interruption. Maybe.

It's a tough call which is better ... this, or Paloma Faith's murdering of the rugby "World in Union" theme tune. Torrid.
Wall of sound. Guess we will find ourselves on one side of it or the other. I'll be sitting right on top of it meself. I Like some Florence trax, and i've not heard any that i couldn't stand (yet). My only problem with 'Cosmic Love' is i can't hear it without thinking "i'm always in this toilet".
(sorry if thats a rude word in your country, but it isn't a rude word in England, and this is written in English).
Florence and the Machine are endemic to the RP sound mix.  Those of you who like county or oldies have plenty of options out there.

Leave the eclectic material unmolested.
I'm starting to recognize Florence when I hear her now, unlike the parade of little girls singing over electronic drone or ersatz classical arrangements.

That's not to say I like this song. I don't.
Flossie has a good set of lungs, not sure if she'd stay face down in water.

Lots of repeat negative comments here from the same people.  Time for those few to "STFU" or PSD.
I can't believe it's been over 5 years since I first listened to this album. This song is still just as evocative and just as startling as when I first heard it. I'm in my office at work listening on headphones and her voice combined with the track's percussive insistence continues to transport me. Super.

Strong, confident music from a woman with a truly, exhilaratingly bombastic sensibility. It comes together best when performed live. Lifts my spirit anytime...

Exactly what comes across to me. Overproduced. Overdramatized.
Waaay toooo much. Overdone and pompous. Sounds like its out of some arrogant musical.
That was a refreshing bit of cacophony (and much needed) for the day...

Personally, still looking for the 11 option on the ratings.
This is a powerful woman singing with true emotion, if you don't like it that's your problem

Contested by some but I have no idea else what I would call it. Wobble-Jaw? More-so in her live performances.

She definitely has a unique voice. It equates to nails on a chalk board for me though.

Rating this a 10 to spite all of the haters. There is just too much hate here at RP. They should find a station more suitable to their tastes instead of complaining. There are thousands of internet radio stations available so try being a little proactive.
