Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
And where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
'Cause the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun

Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life

I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight... into the shining sun

One of the very best. Guitar, lyrics but the usual bunch of numb nuts will put it down in their endless quest to classify the worlds content.
One of a few things my former husband and I had in common was a love of music including a love of Pink Floyd music.  We went to the Division Bell concert in Toronto at the Exhibition Stadium in 1994.  Great concert and memory.
All eras of Pink Floyd are wonderful and timeless. <3
Every song for which the great master gilmour lays his hands on guitar neck is worth at least a 9!!!
Good Tune! I never heard it before. Thank You RP!

Started badly, and apart from doodling Dave, it trudges thrugh the minutes and eventually ends when they all gave up to do something else.

I wish there was a way to filter out content-free comments, too.

But I actually have some sympathy for this one. The chunta-chunta-chunta rhythm is kinda lightweight, childish even and precisely the wrong tempo.

(And I loved me some PF. I lay on the floor in the dark last night and listened to both Ummagumma discs and I couldn't have been happpier.)
wish i could like their material after Roger & Dave called it quits....love every single album to that point in time...then never bought another...
Wow! I had no idea.
Favourite album to make love to in the 90's. We did our best to make our sessions last for the album :-)
The sound of glorious days fading.

This reminds me of my late, good friend Iggy. He played several cuts from Division Bell in the car one night, including this. He truly loved PF, in all 3-4 incarnations.  I wasn't paying close attention to any PF that wasn't Waters/Gilmour DSOTM-era and so I was somewhat unimpressed.
Now I feel Iggy would commend me for liking this a lot more than I did then, not least because it reminds me of what a good friend and fellow he was.  He was gone far too soon and I can't help but think that this should be some of his theme music.

Sorry for your lost. I hope this song gives you some confort and brings back good memories.  I love all PF, couldn't care less what album

A marginal simulation of PF at best.

I'll go with that, its a real Polly song IMHO.

I picked up my copy of the new PF album, The Endless River, yesterday, and you can tell it was meant to accompany this album (originally planned 2 disc set, 1 disc Division Bell, 2nd disc "The Big Spliff" instrumentals).

But the new CD is great, as long as you know up front that it is pretty much an ambient instrumental album that was based around Rick Wright's keyboards.  With that in mind, it is a great listen.

Thanks for the review.
I was wonderin'.
Don't forget Syd Barrett... {#Ass}

Have it and been listening to it. Its definitely got its own sound different from Division Bell. Some great riffing, juxtaposition and development from melodic ideas associated with Wish You Were Here and Saucerful of Secrets, in particular. It would be great to hear a track or two on RP. You can definitely get a sense of how important Rick Wright was for the sound.

Where else but RP would I hear such a fine classic.  Love it.
20 years?  hard to fathom.  I recall buying this album in harrisonburg, va at midnight on the release date, then returning to the house to indulge the senses  {#Cowboy}

For my late good friend, Iggy, who loved PF and sang their praises. I see why. RIP, my friend.

Underrated tune on an underrated album.

Not even mediocre regardless of what I compare this to.

That synth-machine rhythm section is awfully top-50 countdown pop music. I guessed this was from late-80s but apparently the band wasn't changing with the times at that point. The guitar is cool, though.

3/17/15 edit: great segue from Beatles' "Flying"...

Great song. Great album. Wish they were here (or anywhere).

Indeed, agreed on all of this. The Final Cut demonstrated what happened with Waters fully in the lead (i.e. a depressing, whiny, incoherent collection of only mild interest). The two albums by Gilmour go too far in the opposite direction (i.e. overly smooth, not timeless, and also of only mild interest). Like Lennon and McCartney, Waters and Gilmour wrote their best as a team.

The album cover reminds me of Romney and Obama jawboning in debate the other night.
Extraordinary song. Seldom before have I heard.  Giving me goosebumps.
I'll admit, I was a snob with this album. What a mistake! This is an awesome song.

It's a good thing I have RP to help me re-discover some of these tunes.
At least the album cover looks Pink Floydie.

SCREW "THE WALL" and screw Roger Waters. This is the best work by Pink Floyd, only the close-minded disagree. This is probably the best song ever by them.

Well, the Wall has its place but I agree, this entire album is a Masterpiece of concept, lyrics, and guitar arrangements.....Its one of my most favorite albums of all times.
Gilmour makes that piece fly — and so it will be on my iPod in about 10 minutes.

Call it whatever you want, It's still good :) But I must admit that I prefer the albums with Roger.

YYEEAAHH!!!!
Love the roaring hammond and the whole album as well.

Hey Bill,  if you're reading this, I'd love to hear something from David Gilmours semi-acoustic Meltdown concert he did in 2001.  It offered some of the best versions of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour songs I've ever heard.

I hear some Moody Blues. But a nice piece. Great for headphones in the ears on a rocking bike ride.
 ..ZZZZZZ

Oddly, this reminds me of some of Mike Oldfield's work.

Lame and plodding. He sounds flat, and the reverb is there to hide that.
Sweet, delicious cowbell!

Thanks again for reminding me to get this excellent CD out again!

Even though Waters was the backbone of Floyd, without him on this album this track shows that Gilmour himself certainly has what it takes to create the quality Floyd music we love.

Heard the intro, and jumped onto the site to see who it was, and leave a comment like "Man, digging that guitar."  The I saw Pink Floyd, and wasn't the least bit shocked...  So here I am.

And Man, I'm digging that guitar.

David Gilmour - Coming Back To Life, Live-acoustic

London in June 2001 "David Gilmour in Concert"

"From Dave Mustaine of Megadeth: "David Gilmour can do more with one note than most guitar players can do with the whole fretboard." Enough said. "

"People who think in terms of scales and theory probably think Dave's style is limited. But, I consider him a virtuoso. He's not a shredder but, so many great guitarists overlook the side of playing that he maximizes. I learned a lot about making notes matter from him. I see great shredders more often than I see guitarists who can also include the kind of patient, smooth, emotional finesse and accurate note bending he does. I love both approaches. I think he deserves equally great status."     stringslasher

Just had to sit down, turn it up and listen - Loving it

Yep, that was some fine bridging!

We played this song on huge speakers in the southern desert of Israel, on an improvised camping site after a sleepless night of drinking, as the sun was rising. Great moment inspired by a beautiful PF song!

good critique, if it were on american idol... but this is RP, I'd like to think there is a deeper journey we are on.

The aged and noble beast, toothless yet endearing.
If David Gilmour had cut back the trailing delay just a bit on his vocal...it would have made this tune a bit better. Still pretty good, but it lacks the emotion of Waters. Lacks some dynamic, but the guitar is awesome as usual.

Just got back from a trip to Ely Cathedral in England...the church between the heads on the album cover.

The last of the Floyd.
