Just when things are getting complicated
In the eye of the storm
She flicks a red, hot revelation
Off the tip of her tongue
It does a dozen somersaults
And leaves you supercharged
Makes me want to blow the candles out
Just to see if you glow in the dark
Sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
Home, sweet home, home, sweet home
Home, sweet booby trap
I took the batteries out my mysticism
And put them in my thinking cap
She's got a telescopic hallelujah
Hanging up on the wall
For when it gets too complicated
In the eye of the storm
Sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
And in a hellcat spangled cavern
When your judgement's on the run
And you're acting like a stranger
Because you thought it looked like fun
And did you ever get the feeling
That these are things she's said before
Her steady hands may well have done
The Devil's pedicure
What you waiting for?
Sing another fucking sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la
In the eye of the storm
She flicks a red, hot revelation
Off the tip of her tongue

Trying a bit too hard. "She has a telescopic hallelujah hanging on the wall"
Ho hum.
Great band when they started, starting to think the fame went to head, culminating in extremely forced lyrics - "I must make these lyrics clever!" - but in fact, it's nowhere near as lyrically good as the first album, which was inspired.

Everybody in my church loves this song...

One of those eh? If it's accessible to the hoi polloi, it must be trash. There's nothing generic to this... I'd love to see say Maroon 5 attempt to play this song this well.
What a tremendously unreasonable reply. You are the only one implying that I don't like it because its popular. A cursory glance at my tatses via my ratings will show that I care little whether other people get into something as to whether I like it. I care about the quality of the music and this band is such a tremendous let down to produce this schlock Matchbox 74ish rubbish after they had such passion and ability for 2 albums. Your man at the front even did that cool side project thing with the tanks in the film clip. Sorry but this totally stinks and there are plenty of talented bands with English accents if that is all it takes to float your boat.
Also it is nowhere near the quality of recent music which absolutely does not require air quotes. If you haven't been hearing good music and want to settle I feel sorry for you. perhaps you should try the Black Keys, First Aid Kit, Anna Ternheim, The National, Boy and Bearor any one of the many fine examples of recent music played here.

Can't decide which is worse, the band name or the lyrics. I'm calling it a dead heat at 2.
I like this better than anything from their first record.
Heard the opening click of the sticks and was really hoping to hear Precious.
I would probably like this song more if that weren't so.

I think I liked this about the 1st 30 times I heard it....but it's starting to get on my nerves now...

We love Alex's accent and witty lyrics, and English accent, in our time share condo of course!
And see, it sucks.

I don't think Maroon 5 can play anything well. As far as the Arctic Monkeys go, though, this is not one of their better efforts in my book. It lacks the edge that attracted me to them in the first place. Still, as you so aptly pointed out, it's a lot better than most of the "music" out there right now.

More evidence of the fall of a once mighty band - generic poppy trash. Boo I say.

The more I hear this, the more I like it. Reminds me a little of The Church ( a favorite). Maybe it's the jangly guitar, but it's something in the vocals, too. A 7 from me.

A great summer song for cruisin' with the windows down ...

Fookin' Sheffield's finest have come out with another goodie, 'appen. I love the way that they can sing about local 'issues' in a local accent yet get worldwide fame. You certainly learn about otherwise unsung (literally) Sheffield districts and working-class Sheffield life through listening to these tykes.

I like the Artic Monkeys. I'll give this a 7 on first listen.
I took the batteries out of my mysticism, put 'em in my thinking cap and gave this an 8, with strong 9 potential as it grows on me and stands up over time.
An easy 8. . .
Interesting!
7 for now.
