Jack White — Temporary Ground

Released: 2014
Length: 3:06
Plays (last 30 days): 1
On a floating lily island
Moving over slowly sideways
Rested temper and the creatures
Spending all of their days

Praying for the floor to
Buckle down below their belts
Crashing into yet another
Drifting continental shelf

[Chorus x2:]
Moving without motion
Screaming without sound
Across an open ocean
Flying there on temporary ground

The old explorers had it easy
They discovered nothing new
But returned on home with answers
Of sad existent clues

All the creatures have it hard now
Nothing but god is left to know
And while he left us all here hanging
We're barely losing off our home

[Chorus x4]

Jack White, in his Tesla, bought stuff at my yard sale in East Nashville in 2019!

You were having a drive through yard sale?
:)
Must have been weird. What did he get?
Jack White is one of a kind and an incredible musician. I was lucky enough to be at his wedding last year.
Love the fiddle and pedal steel in this. Just upped it to a nine (gotta hold something back in the absence of an eleven.).

Someone else's stuff evidently.  ha

I'd opine that Jack, as a person, is somewhat more interesting than Jack, the singer.  Every single interview and piece of film on this guy that I've seen reveals him as fascinating and engaging.  I can't say the same about all of his music.

and probably made an interesting instrument with it...or some 'new sound' even?

One degree of separation from fame.
Love the pedal steel!

According to the Interweb, it's Lillie Mae Rische. Don't know a thing about her. She sounds great on this track. Really makes it.
Jack's music is limitless. There is  something unique to discover in each piece. While I may not love every one, I always listen because they are so interesting. His collaboration with Loretta Lynn is excellent. I imagine his brain as an ever exploding music bomb.  Love it!

I smell sex and candy here, who's that launching in my chair.
That's what I hear... Marcy playground - AHH memories!
Has he been listening to "Once a Ghost Always a Ghost", by Curved Air?

Probably not. a pretty obscure track that I only picked up by chance. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt..

Funny, I just heard it,,, it was the song played before this one.........

Agreed.

Jack White is the greatest rock and roll performer of his generation. The versatility of his work is astounding. Jack White does it all beautifully.
Some of his early songs are a bit rough, perhaps unfinished and could use the touch of a great producer. Perhaps he can do covers of them!

Amen!  I was surprised to see so many haters here.  He is a genius.  And the Lazaretto tour was once of the best live performances I've seen by any artist EVER.  Definitely in my Top 10 concerts of all time.  Love, love, LOVE Jack White.

I second this. His Roskilde Festival 2014 performance was amazing!

The best part of the Rolling Stones gig was the outro announcement that Jack White would be stand in for Drake, who had cancelled just hours before.

You can watch the whole concert on Youtube.  Jack White 2014 Roskilde Festival.

I think this is an interesting song, but it just occurred to me that it sounds an awful lot like Jack White's take on Schoolhouse Rock - which says more about the quality of Schoolhouse Rock, in my book.

Blink and you're dead.
One trick pony
Holy shit! (I would't ordinarily curse) I"ve heard this song three or four times in this week alone! After not hearing it for so long.
I can't stand it. Her voice, both of them, but mostly hers, makes me cringe.
Second time Jack White comes around today on RP. One time a day should be enough!
Sameness

Now that you mention it....
Somehow I just don't get his music. It's about the only thing on RP that makes me switch over to a different station.

If you get the chance to see him in concert in support of this record, do. He'll melt your face off.

Jack Black and Jack White should do a standup/concert tour and call it the Black and White tour.
Jack, whatever you do, don't blink.
Too much Jack White.
Not enough Jack Black.

{#Roflol}
Like it very much.
Props to the woman singer

Saw Jack White at the Forecastle Festival in Louisville last weekend. He melted everyone's face off.
Saaweeet.
I agree, he's amazing - I've loved everything he's done
He is amaaaazing live. I think that might be his fiddle player Lillie Mae Rausch(?) singing. He is genius and I am enthralled with everything he does.
I generally like White, this is pretty good.  He is an odd duck but pretty talented and a majority of his stuff is good.

Who is the female vocal?
IMHO, his capabilities as a songwriter are growing. This is a long way from "Icky Thump."
He's an odd duck, for sure. But he makes interesting, personal art. I applaud him for that.
Growing slowly on me - not like lichen, more like liking.
