I'm not gonna try and make it even
You're way ahead by now
I'm not gonna try and make it all even
Even though I know how
And everyone thinks I dodged a bullet
But I think I shot the gun
And everyone thinks I dodged a bullet
But I think I shot the gun
I'm not gonna tell my new friends about you
No, I'm gonna let that slide
I'm gonna be lazy when I write about you
Even though it takes all my might
And everyone thinks I dodged a bullet
But I think I shot the gun
And everyone thinks I dodged a bullet
But I think I shot the gun
I'm gonna get back to believing
It's been a long, long time now
I'm gonna get up and make it look easy
Even though I don't know how
I'm not gonna try and make it even
I'm way behind by now
No, I'm not gonna try and make it all even
Even though I know how

Now that's just lazy writing.
Bill,
come on…
come on…
I think he ran out of lyrics...the endless repetition is pure torture
First heard this on the Blacklist soundtrack back in 2013. Liked it in that context as well now by itself.

FFS. "Everyone thinks I dodged a bullet / But I think I shot the gun" is a pithy little observation, Greg. Repeating it eight hundred times in three minutes does NOT make it somehow more profound.
So many singer/songwriters try to build an entire song around a single clever line. Yes, the line is clever! Beat me over the head with it a couple of dozen times, I'm going to start to resent you and your lack of imagination. And hate the shit out of your song.

So, not only you had to be in a pleasant company of your dentist, but you were subjected to the top 40 chart of the pop music? Jesus!
Did i ti at least make dental procedure a lesser of two evils?
Lots of folks complaining about this one here, but it's far more listenable than the pop crap I was subjected to at the dentist. 21st c. top 40 is rather deplorable.
I listen to RP mostly at work to get through the day easier. Goes a long way to keep my sanity and the hook in this tune was not unwelcome. Thanks, Bill!

Great mix/production.
Mixing/mastering studio Yamaha near field monitors with sub give this track a 10.

That's the same thing I think when I hear this song.
This does remind me that I haven't gone shooting in way too long.

What does everyone think you did? What do you think you did? I'm not sure.....

I just discovered this artist by his song Days ago On.
This song is SO DIFFERENT than his other work.
I could suggest 5 others that are more indicative.

fine tune and I LIKE IT
This song is like Luca Brassi. Started off strong, now sleeping with the fishes, all the time sinking.

Exactly. The song may just be a hook, but it certainly is a catchy hook.
Somehow I think I should not like this song, but I do.

The organ's rhythm line reminds me of The Animals' version of "House of The Rising Sun"...
the FBI should play this on a loop. In a deal, Hillary's entire staff will spill when they stop playing it.
I wish somebody would have shot him before he made this song .... way too repetitive .... Bill, please stop torturing me....
Makes me laugh, because I have felt that way.

Exactly. It's like he took a songwriting class, attended the first day, then never went back. Besides being ridiculously repetitive, it just feels... unfinished.
If all you've got is a hook - Let it go!

Ho Hum..
Somehow I think I should not like this song, but I do.

I would rather choke on glass than listen to this song.
Boring. ==> PSD
Interesting track, great sound.
yet another new artist RP turns me onto, it never ends
Really growing on me ... seems to be getting a lot of airplay on RP lately.
I woke up with this song in my mind

this song wouldn't bother me so much if you didn't play it all the time!
Nice!
Curious to the album!

If all you've got is a hook - Let it go!
Although the words are clever, the chorus just does not appeal to my ear.
His prior work, Landline is an infinitely singable, clever and melodic piece of work.
Infectious and grand.
