I'm going to answer, protecting
It can be so hard to forgive
It's not what I thought, and it's not what I pictured
When I was imagining my man
You are so nervous all of the time, living the classics
I know that imagining my man
Imagining, imagining my man

All my life (hey!) I've had to fight to stay
You were right, love takes time, hey, hey

You have this dream, apparently I'm not done
I leave and it's dreadful
If you get there
Be honest, respectful

All my life (hey!) I never tried to stay
You were right, love takes time, hey, hey

I hope one dream will get that when we're
Lucky to be given the chance
I do not have the answer
But I don't have the wish to go back

All my life (hey!) I've had to fight to stay
You were right (yes!), love takes time, hey, hey
All my life (hey!) I've had to fight to stay
You were right, love takes time, hey, hey

this is so weird, but cool, but weird...

"Wonderful kind of weird" is the best descriptor yet.

That is exactly what it is.
Thought I was listening to a slow version of Pretenders Chain Gang!

Hypnotic at the outset, made me look up and come to the laptop to see 'WhoTF?' is this that's grabbed my ears?...
I "discovered" Aldus Harding on this station, she is so Marvelously weird, her videos are enigmatic, hilarious.... and well, just brilliant.
Reminds me of Nico.
Just love it. It throws you into a particular mood.

Love the 'Tiny Desk' rendition of this song. Hard to look away.

This, from a YouTube comment:
"She has such a baroque intensity on her face that you can't help but be mesmerized. She fully understands the theatricality of a performance. She doesn't just sing her song but she lives it. She also seems to understand music cinematically as if each song is to play a character in an imaginary movie only she can portray. She's always in character and she wants you to know it. Major talent."

The intensity and sincerity of this performance legit made me cry.
Powerful …. Video adds to the mood.
I keep hearing Lana Del Rey

and a bit Melanie
Boldly different - I like this very much.  Also, her videos are fantastic.
we love aldous here in nz. There is nobody quite like her in a world of music where so many artists are trying to please the 12 year olds

I wonder if those kids shouting "hey!" are getting royalties from this album.  Like every few months they get a check for 7 cents.

Probably just her kids and she (alone) thought it would be cute to use them.
This song is really growing on me. At first listen, I was rather unnerved, but every time I hear it, I love it more and more. An acquired taste.
Arrgh!  No!!  Wailing, off tune.

First time I've ever given a 2.

I love the way she sings those two lines - "If you get there' & "I do not have the answer'.   A fantastic song all around.
Thanks William and Alanna for playing the odd kiwi act like our Aldous.
As we say here, she's a one-off!
She is SO amazing!
What a smokin' vocal performance. This song went into a part of my brain that went 'wow. what's this'.. music thing'?

To be honest, I really dislike songs that use 'kids' in the chorus.  This is one more exception along with School (Supertramp) and The Wall ( Pink Floyd).

Yikes, this song just rattles my nerves. I guess I just don’t get it.

It's a breakup song.  That could be your "out".
HEY!!

Maybe we need an Aldous Harding Samuel Herring (Future Islands) duet?
she's always interesting listening, balancing on the ridge of popular appeal

later... bumping to 9!

I came here for the comments. I am not disappointed. Interesting song, bill.
ARRRG! Stop! I'll tell you the invasion plans, just stop!

I think her crying baby interrupted this song a couple of times....
so melancholy - yet spirited - “hey!”
