It'll be fine by dusk light, I'm tellin' you, baby
These things eat at your bones and drive your young mind crazy
But when you place your head between my collar and jaw
I don't know much, but there's no weight at all

And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
'Cause if I say I miss you, I know that you won't
But I miss you in the mornings when I see the sun
Somethin' in the orange tells me we're not done

To you, I'm just a man; to me, you're all I am
Where the hell am I supposed to go?
I poisoned myself again, somethin' in the orange
Tells mе you're never comin' homе
If you leave today, I'll just stare at the way
The orange touches all things around
The grass trees and dew, how I just hate you
Please turn those headlights around

I need to hear you say you've been waitin' all night
There's orange dancin' in your eyes from bulb light
Your voice only trembles when you try to speak
Take me back to us dancin', this wood used to creak

To you, I'm just a man; to me, you're all I am
Where the hell am I supposed to go?
I poisoned myself again, somethin' in the orange
Tells me you're never comin' home
If you leave today, I'll just stare at the way
The orange touches all things around
The grass trees and dew, how I just hate you
Please turn those headlights around

To you, I'm just a man; to me, you're all I am
Where the hell am I supposed to go?
I poisoned myself again, somethin' in the orange
Tells me you're never comin' home
If you leave today, I'll just stare at the way
The orange touches all things around
The grass, trees, and dew, how I just hate you
Please turn those headlights around
Please turn those headlights around

Well, hate is a strong word.  But I don't like your mother-in-law either.
Door hinge.
ooo. i like this!!
Easy 8 from the first listen.
Oh, good. I haven't heard Zach Bryan in thirty minutes.

Oologah, Oklahoma.  Born in the same town as Will Rogers !!!

This song was used at the end of "Big Sky" season finale

came here to post this

I really do not like his voice at all.  But...man....those lyrics hit hard and close.  Maybe it is just a function of today specifically.  Maybe I'll lower my rating some time later on.  Maybe in time my bitterness will fade.

I hope so.

An 8
I see that ZB has gotten quite popular. I listened to the entire album and while I like this song and appreciate his lyrics, the melodies start running together, song structure very similar from track to track, to the point where it was hard to distinguish one track from the next.
I like this Zach Bryan song, as it reminds me a lot of Jason Isbell; this song makes up for the hated whistling song, which always gets turned down because it's way too distracting at work.
Edit: I keep wanting this to be Decoration Day when I hear it.
He's all my 20-year old daughter listens to.

It's not a terribly new word. I'm in.

Sounds like Ryan  Adams,  too,

Absolutely LOVE this tune.

Do you? Do you really? I know this artist's hometown where he was raised. His song "Cold Damn Vampires" or "Damn Cold Vampires" whatever nonsense on Nashville in particular and the recording industry more broadly. Welcome to adulthood. He'd be blown out of most living rooms where he's from by the paperboy. And tries to play the victim of the industry while employing the capitalist mechanisms in place to promote himself. Sheesh, what an artist!
Absolutely LOVE this tune.
booooooring
Bill should play Chris Knight.
After a few listens bumping from 7-8, this guy is good!

My first listen started 45 seconds ago and that was my first thought. Bingo!
Still convinced this is Bill's nephew or stepson. No country artist gets more airplay here.

somewhat less whiney

Why reminds you too much of you?

When i first heard this, i didnt catch the beginning, and it made me think of my son, first - how i felt when he went off to college, then later, how he may have felt when i would go off to work for 7-10 days at a time.
i hate my mother in law

Instant 9 with a high liklihood of moving up a notch at the next listen.
Okay, this is pretty damn good.  But, I'm willing to wager that this song arose from a bet.

I imagine he's referring to the orange sky of a sunrise.
...But I miss you in the mornings when I see the sun
Somethin' in the orange tells me we're not done...
"Bryan discussed missing a significant other even though he knows that the feelings probably aren’t mutual. Since he talks about missing this special person every time the sun comes up, she’s likely constantly on his mind."

Sunset, a metaphor of the end of the story, sigh   :(((
Can somebody please tell me what "the orange" is.

I thought it was Jason Isbell. Voice and subject are similar. Not a bad thing indeed.

RP! Well put.

I pray she doesn't and your statement remains conjecture...  Though experience suggests it is accurate conjecture
How I'd feel if my wife decided I wasn't worth it anymore.
Holy Jason Isabell bat man!
!Good story teller.
I just noticed that he was in the Navy for eight years, just got out last year. Being a former Navy man myself, that's definitely a point in his favor.
Powerful lyrics.
