See these eyes so green
I can stare for a thousand years
Colder than the moon
It's been so long

Feel my blood enraged
It's just the fear of loosing you
Don't you know my name
Well, you been so long

And I've been putting out fire
With gasoline

See these eyes so red
Red like jungle burning bright
Those who feel me near
Pull the blinds and change their minds
It's been so long

Still this pulsing night
A plague I call a heartbeat
Just be still with me
Ya wouldn't believe what I've been thru
You've been so long
Well it's been so long

And I've been putting out fire
With gasoline
Putting out fire
With gasoline

See these tears so blue
An ageless heart
That can never mend
These tears can never dry
A judgement made
Can never bend

See these eyes so green
I can stare for a thousand years
Just be still with me
You wouldn't believe what I've been thru

You've been so long
Well, it's been so long
And I've been putting out fire
With gasoline
Putting out fire with gasoline

Been so long
Been so long
Well its been so long
Been so long
I've been putting out fire
Been so long
And its been so long
Been putting out fire
Well it's Been so long so long so long
Yes it's been so long so long so long
I've been putting out fire
Been so long so long so long
And putting out fire
Been so long so long so long
Yeah yeah putting out fire
Been so long so long so long
Been putting out fire
Been so long so long so long
Yeah putting out fire
Been so long so long so long
Putting out fire
Been so long so long so long
It's been so long
Been so long so long so long
It's been so long
Been so long so long so long
It's been so long
Been so long so long so long
I've been putting out fire
Been so long so long so long

I can't hear this song without remembering its use in  "Inglorious Basterds". Watch that film in a theatre with a great sound system and every time you hear this song afterwards, you'll get the chills.

Hearing it at the end of Cat People in the theater was bone-chilling!
10 for Bowie's voice and the lyrics.  5 for the rest of the music = it's a 7.
10 godlike💯♥️

Well Miles, you could pick your own music from your own collection or start your own radio stream with the music you wanna listen to.

Classic William!

was hoping for a better 3 cymbal segue
Mahavishnu...........Birds of Fire
Loving the production on this version - so clean!
i find this version to be very dramatic and i really like it. actually, i like all versions i've heard.

LOL it really does remind me of coming from my cat's point of view in places "just be still with me. you wouldn't believe what i've been through...it's been so long..." (she is old at 15 and has separation anxiety. LOL)
Feels like this is constantly on every few days, but it says right there 3 plays in 30 days.  Music memory is a weird thing.

We're not all going to agree, especially on music.
I believe it's good for people to have their own thoughts/views.
You may like it, some may not.  It's called choice.

And omg what a boring world it would be if we all liked the same and saw no differences.  I also think it's good to throw stuff up in the air, get other views - all we have to do is agree to differ.

Just saying.
This era of Thin White Duke  didn't do it for me.  Wad blown.
I'm on the fence for which version of this song I like better, the Moroder version or the Let's Dance version.... I think I like the Let's Dance version better by about 0.5.... They both rate an 8, minimum.
I hear a little White Wedding (Billy Idol -- chord progression) in there.....

of course the better 80s Soundtrack  pairing was Bauhaus's Bela in The Hunger, opening sequence. Brilliant.
Wasn't Bowie involved in that?
With a stunning Nastassja Kinski
I thought this was Sisters of Mercy in the intro
Good song.
But it's a great song when Stevie Ray Vaughan plays the guitar on it.
Saw the movie - Cat People, year ago...when it came out...excellent soundtrack....Years later - Inglourious Basterds wasn't too shabby either...great tune for both of these films...
He sounds like Greg Lake in this.

Wow so cool
I was introduced to Bowie's larger body of work with this album by a couple who were "cat people".  They kept a black leopard as a pet and worked at a zoo with the big cats.  So many years ago.....  Great memories.

Yup the same tracklist year after year it seems

I think the Heroes cover by Iva Davies would be a perfect addition.
The guitar on this puts me in mind of Jeff Wayne's 'War of the worlds', not sure why.
This was a nice set with Peter Schilling and Natalie Marchant's takes on the Major Tom story but I think for the Bowie tune it would make more sense to do something off Heroes or Low to circle us back to Germany. I always thought the Schilling song was a reaction to krautrock influences on the Berlin albums.
Oh man, I used to watch this movie on HBO on constant rerun both for Nastassja Kinski and the closing scene and credits that feature this song.
So picturing the scene from Inglorious Bastards.

Fantastic version😊
I love this version. A little more MOR but fun to hear every now and then
Fantastic production on this track.
Nice segue from Natalie Merchant's SPACE ODDITY!
One of my Bowie Faves!  8
Lots going on in this one with great production and a hint of 80's parmisean!
he born january, died in january, if god will not angry to be capricorn I want to die in 1st january same day I born... December is not Capricorn as known as...
RIP David Bowie...
I remember seeing this movie in the student center in college. Good one for Halloween.

I was wrong, since I noticed I already rated it!

I was not in a good mood. I upped my rating from a 4 to a 6.
Thanks Bill, I'm pretty sure I haven't heard this since the 80's.
I've always liked this song. But hearing it , finally, on my good "hifi" system. It's REALLY a good tune.
Bowie has been the soundtrack of my life and didn't even realise until he had gone. I know we can make too much of people who at the end of the day were just really good at their jobs. I'm a muso and happy with where I am. But wouldn't have had the inspiration to do it without people like Bowie. So thanks Dude, in a big way. And Mick Ronson, one of the best guitarists ever, forget clapton..
Sounding every bit like an 80s movie montage scene or ending credit roll.

I love cat people... but also... Black Tie White Noise...   and BlackStar do it for me.   Many thanks for any Bowie played on RP!!!

Technically you could put fire out with gasoline.

Wow...those backup singers are really top notch
This song was the reason I went to see the movie - song is ok. Movie I didn't really get, oh well
Do love this track especially the big Gear change in David's voice.

Considering the situation in Paradise a peculiar choice.
Space Oddity then to David Bowie.

Radio Paradise is just that cool.

Hoping for the best in light of the fires, Bill & Rebecca.
"Putting out fire with gasoline" — That's not a very smart thing to do, says this observer.
remember class, not everything David did was great
I get that sometimes different than what you're used to is good, but to me this is just an inferior version of a good song. The blistering Stevie Ray guitar added a lot to the song.
definitely an 8

Nah.
Cat people comic strip...

Cat People
Good stuff
6.9 on average is underrated IMO, isn't it, for me its an 8 ..
David Bowie does Talking Heads/New Wave.
Great!  Haven't heard this one in a while.  {#Bananajam}

But that was the point - in a completely post-modernist approach. This song was an excellent choice for that scene! It made the scene, IMO.
Gotta admit, I can still really appreciate the passion with which Bowie belted it out in this period, around same time as China Girl, yeah!

Nastassja was yummy.

Was living in New Orleans, where it was filmed, and there were parts of the park where she'd been running naked - but big visual barriers kept the riffraff (me) out.

ugh
I've got this on vinyl.  Bought the cd much later and found the mastering, like so many others, was absolute crap.  Don't know if a decent digital version even exists.  I suspect the rating would be a notch or two higher if it weren't for that.

Me and a bunch of friends saw it when it came out. Kinski and the music distracted us from the crappy plot that we didn't notice.

Kinski is still a beautiful woman but you can see more of her dad in her lately:

fun psd, but that sweaty gaze and the pounding beat had "Rocky" jump to mind (Stallone bopping to Bowie)!
oof, think I need a break

I saw this when it premiered as well.  It was nothing great, but it was fun.  Nastassja was yummy in it, so was Annette O'Toole.  Oddly enough, Lou Reed was in the snack line in front of me at the theater, I didn't say anything to him.

KICK/PUNCH-Version

relevant (except the Synth-Stuff :-/ ).

My favorite part of this song is the soulful backing vocals. Great stuff.

Oh, even better, this is the full-length version. Bowie's double CD greatest hits features the shortened single version of this and a bunch of his other songs, which is annoying.

Nice kitty!  We Rock On

Is this a recent recording of this song?  Bowie sounds like an old man here - but a really, really, rockin' old man!

Yeah, it wrecked what was otherwise an historically accurate bit of cinema.

Me thinks the incongruity was the point.

I remember seeing David Bowie on TV when I was a kid around the time this song came out and I was petrified. He was such a striking and strange looking person. I liked the music, and still do, but at the time, I had to change the channel :)

thanks for playing this — one of my all time favorite Bowie tunes  {#Mrgreen}
I think people get too caught up in the backstory on Bowie to appreciate the music. GIven when this came out and the times in which it was written, this is some serious sh _ _ . He is one great artisit regardless of what you think about him personally.....
freaking awesome!! still gives me chills!!!!

There's Never Let Me Down.  Parts of Tonight.  Parts of the Deram Album.  Parts of Let's Dance.

Part's of Hours.  A song or two on Reality.  That about covers it.
