We
Lay on our backs in the grass
Silently watching the rain clouds
Move by far too fast
You said it was a night where
Anything could happen
But nothing was gonna last

We're doing fine now
Yeah we do
We don't feel sad or bad or blue
And you know
We're never defeated
Or broken inside
All that is fine
All that is fine

We
We burn our boats each new year
Silently watching the flames
And an old life disappear
We're burning a new sunrise into
Yesterday's skies
An ashen fingerprint
Melts into the sea

We're doing fine now
Yeah we do
We don't feel sad or bad or blue
And you know
We're never defeated
Or broken inside
All that is fine
Yeah, all that is fine

We're doing fine now
Of course we do
We don't feel sad or bad or blue
And now you know
We're never defeated
Or broken inside
All that is fine
All that is fine

Anything to feel
Anything inside
Anything

I owe a debt of gratitude to RP for introducing me to Beth Orton; I would no doubt have remained totally musically deprived otherwise.
be nice to hear with electric guitar
I can see how some people just love Beth. But anyone this unique is bound to be polarizing. I'm personally in the <barf> camp, but I get it.
YUM Thanks Bill for regularly expanding my awareness of Beth Orton beyond Stolen Car.
A voice for a genre
This is an incredible album. Her best. I saw her do it live - unforgettable.
I really love her new stuff, and I really love her old stuff, too... She's absolutely astounding, in my opinion. I'm continually impressed.
I'm not a Beth Orton fan, but I really like this one.  As to those who are critical about the lyrics — really, there are lyrics and you care?  The music is good, her song is just another instrument to me and she uses it well.  I could care less what she or most other singers are actually meaning by their words.  Singing in songs all sounds like the non-words of Cocteau Twins to me.

I don't find the lyrics "pedestrian" at all, but then, I've walked a lot of places.  She tried to get Samuel Taylor Coleridge to work with her on this tune, but he was busy doing a remix with P-Diddy.

Love this. and the burn back to 1834 too.
and 8 for this from an amazing album!

Agree with mangialone, tazochai, booda. The lyrics that are comprehensible are pedestrian and the "singing" is some sort of bellyaching moan. I did like the instrumental part of the song *very* much, though! So strip out the vocal track(s) and play it again! :D

Check out her work on  "Exit Planet Dust"

Talent, sure.. but look again.

Based on Google's photo album of her, I think she's quite lovely.

This is one of her better songs; good stuff!

How generous of you!
Amazing voice, amazing album.
Oh no not her again. I have said it before & I will say it again. This woman cannot sing.{#Frustrated}
her voice is versatile -   5 / 6.

Beth Orton:  any time, any day, any reason :D
Her voice is much better in a more natural environment (i.e., not as electronic).
Really like her voice.
Missed it. Bummer. More Beth please.
Consistently disliked for 5 years...hmmm. I liked it, personally!
I like this better than other Beth Orton I've heard. Less suh-huh-umthing in her vaaa-ha-oice...

That kind of "electronic" thing happening in the background towards the beginning sounds... well... like Knight Rider. There, I said it. I feel much better now...

Old people are sensitive to high pitched noise like that. I can see how others wouldn't be comfortable with it!

I REEEALLY need to go to the bathroom, but I can\'t stop listening to RP.

Interesting term (dweepiness)... what's the origin? No results from Google. "Dweepy" turns up either some program used for nuclear physics, or Dutch pages, which I can't read, so I'm guessing it's some Dutch colloquialism, and probably not too complimentary by the tone of the above...

not sure if I will like this one after the 5th listening... inteteresting electronica sound and a nice baseline piece... Good to see a lot of mixed up sounds coming out of the powerful women singers... I expect to hear more fused tunes like this over here in the states... Seems the UK has been shaking to these sorts of arrangements for a long while...

Aw, heck, they still call sheep "chicks" in St. Paul, right? At least on certain lonely Saturday nights? ;)

I just can\'t get into the new Beth Orton.

Pretty sure it's a cello... which technically is part of the violin family, so not truely incorrect. ;)
I dig the song but after reading all of the comments about the ringing, I now find I\'m \"looking\" for it...thanks a lot! ;) Anyhoo, I still like it, it\'s a bit different from the other songs I\'ve heard by her on RP.

quickly becoming one of my favorite artists, thanks entirely to RadioParadise. (but yeah, that ringing bell is pretty damn annoying)
wooohoo, i can\'t wait for the CD to come out!
Very Annoying. I hate the bell ringing.
