If you fear the angels above while you sleep
Then I'll be the blood, you paint on your door
Your dream is a worry that nothing will keep,
But time is a story and there will be more
Your dream is a worry that nothing will keep,
But time is a story and there will be more

And death and disgrace can seduce anyone
Who needs to believe there's judgment at hand,
God may be kind and see you like a son,
But time is a lion when you are a lamb
God may be kind and see you like a son,
But time is a lion when you are a lamb

The years see the best of intentions and greed
They come without shame, they'll leave you with some
Men become old when their hurt becomes need,
But time is a lover and your time is young
Men become old when their hurt becomes need,
But time is a lover and your time is young

The sun is a soldier, out crawling the hill
Setting fire to every house that's in view,
Lighting the ruin of my hope and my will
Till I'm like a shadow and I'm falling on you,
Crawling on you,
Oh you know how I do

So sleep here with me and I'll keep you close
For now while i try to live up to you,
You can't see the challenge of this, I suppose,
But time is a dare and I'm trying to
You can't see the challenge of this, I suppose,
But time is a dare and I'm trying to
But time is a dare and I'm trying to ( 3x )

Not bad for a guy whose sister in law is...Madonna.  Now ain't that a Christmas table you'd like to bear witness to, eh?  {#Roflol}

Guitar riffs are very Mike Campbell-ish and that isn't a bad thing at all.

Mike Campbell is so cool.
No gay-cabaret, please!

Amen to that.
Great song, great CD!!
Love Joe Henry SO MUCH. Saw him open for Elvis Costello once and he was amazing.

I like it a lot
Hate this song.
{#Bananajumprope} Love this song.

Works with Madonna quite a bit — since he's married to her sister.

What the hell are the lyrics here? Time is a dare and I'm trying to — what? Driving me crazy, every time.

Trying to dare time.
What the hell are the lyrics here? Time is a dare and I'm trying to -- what? Driving me crazy, every time.
Sounds like a bunch of guys( including all but not only the guys Michael Penn channels) that got shoved into a blender, then got smushed into one of those cloth pastry bag thingees and squeezed out. I haven't worked out the part about how it gets to the ears yet. Maybe you could soak it in beer and get little air bubbles in it, then make it into those little foamy roll up earplugs and to block it with. Not that it's that bad,it's just not much.
Dr. John meets The The
Channeling Dr. John.
Gets better with each listen 5 => 7
catchy!
7, but a much better 7 than, say, a Joni Mitchell 7
Is the girl on the cover P.J.Harvey?
The kind of tune that makes you hunt down the lyrics... God may be kind and see you like a son, but time is a lion when you are a lamb
I think this song is fabulous. Never heard of Joe Henry 'till I started listening to RP.
This was an amazing set up until now. I don't understand the fondness for so much Joe Henry around here when there is better stuff to play...

I was sitting here at work thinking ... Is this Bob Weir ?? What the ?? Funny. I wasn't alone... Nice song. Different.
Playlist hyperbole very declasse here, amigo. Where's that arbiterofgoodtaste dude when you really need him? basilpapademos wrote:
He's okay but Bill, c'mon, you don't have to play him 10 times a day - same goes for Porcupine Tree. Although, I have to say, P. Tree works better in repetition...
liking it. cool album cover.

I miss the Joe of "Trampolines"
I certainly can understand your thought there, but an artist has to continue to grow and change, I believe, to still like and care about what they do. I have heard the similar things when he made Trampoline and stopped making records like "Short Man's Room".
I miss the Joe of "Trampolines"
Two songs from this CD played today. GO Joe. Go Bill.
I got this CD a short while ago, a great addition to Joe Henry's excellent body of work. First I heard of Joe Henry I was a little put off by the vocals, but on further listening, found him to be an interesting artist musically and lyrically. Worth investigating further (for you nay-sayers).
He has a Bob Wier sound to him.

Alas, Joe Henry is on the map! (Spoken with a sheepish grin!)

Madonna's brother-in-law. Seriously. Though, that gives her cred more than him.
