We got to see GoGo Penguin live last week. Maybe it’s a bit of recency bias, but I think it was the best concert I’ve experienced (sneaking in above the Talking Heads 1983 big white suit / Stop Making Sense tour). They mostly played tunes from Necessary Fictions, but they did play a couple of older tunes, including this one. Fantastic. I was a bit surprised that much of the keyboards that I had assumed were played on a synthesizer were actually played by Chris Illingworth on a grand piano with electric pickups and treatments. All three of them are incredible musicians and the whole experience was captivating, even without the typical R&R concert theatrics.
My only slight disappointment was that they didn’t play a BBNG tune, as I have read they have done on previous tours. Apparently they are fans, as am I.
Reminding of Oregon. Wonderful.
Nice Dawn of Midi vibes!
If you're enjoying GoGo Penguin, I recommend listening to Danish duo Svaneborg Kardyb

Thought the same!!

Yah...that George Winston  Paul Winter Shadofax sound.

Huh. I haven’t thought or heard about Windham hill in decades. Probably, not since I bought a receiver without a phono input and stopped listening to vinyl. Pretty sure my Mark Isham and Michael Hedges records were Windham Hill.

Something about this music reminds me of Tananas. One of the best musical acts to come out of Cape Town. If you haven't eard of them yet, look them up.

Tananas were fantastic but I hear that Steve Newman has had health problems.
Love this band - and so pleased RP found them - there are bits of this track that sound like the theme to Downton Abbey!!

This track does somehow capture the mania of day-to-day life and the sense that it will all be okay, nevertheless. There's probably some technical musical explanation for this involving meters and scales (I'm not an expert – can you tell?), but my overall impression is that it is textured and interesting.

It's in a 5/4 time signature which, i think, helps contribute to a subtle subversion of aural expectations for most listeners, and both propels the piece forward while also creating a slight sense of unease.
I love this! Does anyone know which instruments are involved here? I can hear drums, upright bass, and piano, but it also sounds like plucking the piano strings, sometimes at the same time I hear the piano, so maybe something else?

…love this and the band name.
Am I hearing some polyrhythms going on here?
Very nice addition. Has elements of a Windham Hill, circa 1980’s feel to it.

I hope so...
This certainly helps!
I recently heard GoGo Penguin in Mexico City, pure magic, great sound and good vibes!!!
Good old Manchester.
EXCELLENT TUNE!   Thanx RP!

I wouldn’t mind if you played this all day long

“Relaxing and stimulating” indeed. Well said, Edweirdo.

A well deserved ‘10’ from me.

A first hearing for me. Awesome tune! Thanks as always, RP ❤️
Lovely.  Cheers.
After a couple of years away from RP, I come back and see that it's still playing all of my favourite artists. Even 'secret' ones like GoGoPenguin who I thought was mine alone. You've not lost your touch, RP!

Fantastic band. Go see them live if you get the chance.
Why I love RP, finding fresh music always. Love this track....will have to investigate these guys further. Thanks B&R!!!

I got a feeling like I get from Vince Guraldi. Gogo Penguin, that is my highest praise.
This is the third song by GoGo Penguin I've heard on RP in the past week, and I am really loving it. Fantastic.
At first hearing this and then seeing the band's name, I though it may have been a Penguin Cafe reference.
Awesome, more stuff like this please!
Brilliant!

That's what makes RP so special ... The Stone Roses followed by this, love it!
