So happy to hear this on RP! an NYC alternative dj Delphine Blue used this as her opening song on her weekly show Shocking Blue for decades!

Lasting memories of white washed narrow Spanish streets full of colourful flowers and this song.
SUPERB!! Thanx RP! ...Bon Dia! (Good morning in Catalan)
I usually don't like the Gypsy Kings, but this one is nice!
Probably thanks to the lack of vocals...

Love all GK instrumentals such as this. Can't handle any of their vocals, however.
For collectors, here are some other artists to consider in this genre:
Paco DeLucia
Ottmar Liebert
Strunz & Farah
Jesse Cook (like GK, JC should not sing!)
Willie & Lobo (a bit different, but would fit)
Also for your consideration:
Anything by the extended Romero family, e.g., Pepe, et al.

Always lovin' these guys...
A bit too sweet.
Not really so "completely different" as something superb and classy.

I miss the Gipsy King's version of Hotel California which is unbelievable IMHO.

Oldie, but goodie ¡Olé, olé y olé tío!
Never warmed up to the Gipsy Kings. Virtuosity is undeniable, but for me it just never takes off.
It also reminds me of what Wolf Trap has become (the summer season, not The Barns) compared to what it used to be.

I'm trying to decide if I prefer the song instrumental as it is here or with lyrics... it's weird to hear it without lyrics but, at the same time, it is more pleasant to listen to, it sounds "empty" but more harmonious. ( Does that even make sense? )
Gerudo Valley from Zelda!
no, not really...but close.. so good.

Local public radio station claims "music discover starts here". Sometimes, maybe. All the time on RP!
I've seen the Gipsy Kings in concert a couple of times and loved every second of it!!!
This should be called "No inspiration"
Can somebody please help me here - I am hearing something from Radiohead but can't put my finger on it...
yes...
Not surprising that the Spanish were seriously miffed when this bunch of highly talented French guys became the most famous exponents of Spanish guitar music in the world. But if you think this track is a little tame, try Serana, or Vamos a Bailar from the album Mosaique for sheer musical excitement.
Can somebody please close the elevetor....
In Iran, where I live, they have simply ruined GK and some other great instrumental music by using it as generic background music in restaurants, stupid tv programmes, etc...
and what really helps is the absence of copyrights of any kind.

Thanks, Bill. Keep educating the jazz illiterate (like me) with cuts like this one. V. nice!
intro sounded like a Leonard Cohen cover
The intro reminds me of 'Gerudo valley theme' from the N64-game Legend of Zelda - ocarina of time.
Absolutely LOVE the GK instrumentals! They are wonderful. Thank you for playing this!
Nice!

I always thought this was the perfect lead-in to Al Stewart's "On The Border."
Memories of an incredible, life-changing vacation in Puerto Vallarta many moons ago ... especially good on a chilly March morning.
If one like's the GK's you like Pata Negra

jody,
i certainly enjoyed my time in austin and i am so glad
that KGSR is available via internet broadcast. i
wanted to thank you for personally answering my emails
while i lived there, it meant a lot to me. i am back
up north again and i have one last favor to ask of you
if you would be so kind.
september 7th, travelling up highway 35, had just made
the switch over to 35E into dallas where i would have
a short respite before continuing further north. i'm
going to say it was about 4 pm. i guess my austin
luck was holding out as i still had KGSR tuned in at
EXIT 377! you had just finished playing a set that
consisted of CCR, Afro Celt....and then some latin
influenced guitar instrumental that was absolutely
gorgeous. of course, right as you came back on and
were about to divulge who it was, the radio went
blank. not even static, just a wink and goodbye. i
shut the stereo off and rode into dallas in silence.
what was that last song i heard across the airwaves?
thanks, greg
This just hits my soul in such a fine way ! thx PR

This is great music!
Had dinner in a Spanish restaurant last night, and the guitarists played this. I knew it because of RP! I gotta buy some Gypsy Kings!
everytime i hear them I wonder why i dont listen to them more. acoustic alchemy (sp) is excellent; that would make a great show pairing
This is wonderful.
Great Mexico beach music...cerveza...sand...companionship...moonlight...it hardly gets any better

Saw them last Sat night at radio City Music Hall - Great show!

This is my favourite comment on the whole of RP ! Vamos !!
Ha! I first looked at the title of the album and thought is said something else. Well you can tell where my mind is at right now.

Eddie Veddar says Karen's voice turns him into jelly (Hmm... "Pearl Jelly." sounds like it set up wrong!).
Don't let that job (Mammon?) ruin two of life's little treasures for you.
VERY Cool! I used to manage a Spanish restaurant, and this was one of the artists/groups in our cd rotation. I've enjoyed them ever since. But I've NEVER heard them on a radio station before!

Yeah, Segovia doing Villa Lobos would be nice.

Bonita canción. Prefiero las instrumentales
The GKs add a very nice note to RP's eclectic play. :goodvibes.gif:
An excellent addition to the mix! Let\'s hear some more!
I have been checking out a bunch of Strunz and Farah music lately. They are pretty awesome. When Bill and Rebecca get back from their trip and begin accepting uploads again I will be certain to include some of their songs.
Granted the name may be misleading, but the sound is still
appealing. I wouldn\'t mind hearing some of the suggested listening as posted in previous comments though ...
I\'ve never particularly liked the Gypsy Kings. Having lived in Spain, I can honestly say I don\'t think they sound like real gypsy music. They record on a french record label and have a non-spanish sound (to me).
Instead, I recommend Strunz & Farah to people. They\'re in Los Angeles and play a more cosmopolitan form of this same guitarismo music. I especially recommend their \"Primal Magic\" and \"Americas\" albums.
