Here it comes, here comes another day
Another decision on the way
Well here it comes, here comes a covered display
Of preferences to make
Here comes a knock on the door
Open it for an opportunity
Well here it comes, here comes a physical rain
Of memories to be made

Eyes wide open
Eyes wide open all the time

'N there it was, it was the perfect take
And were you asleep or awake?
There it was, it was a perfect time
To speak your mind
'N there it was, it was the chance of a lifetime
It flew right by and what did you do?
Well there it was, it was another day
For memories to be made

Eyes wide open
Eyes wide open all the time
I've got my eyes wide open all the time
Eyes wide open
Because you never know
What you might see

Memories to be made

Eyes wide open
Eyes wide open all the time
I've got my eyes wide open
Eyes wide open
Because you never know
What you might see

In a recent interview in the Rolling Stone, Jakko Jakszyk revealed they have been recording:
"One of the things we have been doing of late is recording studio
versions of the new material [only previously played live]. We’ve used
the live recordings as a template, and I’ve done guitars, overdubs and
backing vocals. Whether that comes out as a King Crimson album or
whether it lies in the vaults, I don’t know."

Having followed the band since 1969, I choose to take the "break up" as just another hiatus. Call me an eternal optimist.
In the meantime, there are tons of "new" old recordings available on DGM Live.

Horrible cover, good album.
I do get King Crimson. Some complain about everything, but having seen this band in a number of incarnations, there is no other group on this planet that does what they do. And Tony Levin plays bass. Nothing more needs be said. If your ears are wide open.

A solid 4 for me.

I keep trying to like them, but it’s shite, there moments where I think “oh” and then I realise it’s still hippy rubbish.

I don't think of Crimson as hippy-esque at all - it strikes me as angular. What KC comes across to me is very mental, very head-centered (Talking Heads also strike me that way). To put it another way, the musicianship and complexity of what they are playing is rather fascinating. It's impressive that way. But it is lacking a certain amount of heart & belly... I say that as someone who likes most of their work.

Ha ha.  I shouldn't appreciate this comment, but I do.  Thanks for the laugh, friend.  This gets a 1 from me.  Plus a PSD if I feel that way inclined.

edit:  Unfortunately, I've recently watched "Toyah & Robert's Sunday Lunch" podcasts on YouTube.  I've never felt so embarrassed in all my life...

I was totally astounded that they came out with this after laying low for so long — and was transported to another level by seeing them play during the supporting tour at Sangenjaya Showa Women's University, near where I lived at the time in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo...
See them on this tour if you can!  OMG!! Rock and roll perfection!

Yes, they do. Gavin Harrison, who I had heard of but did not really know, is one of those folks who channel the pulse of creation into a drum set. The precision exhibited by this band is a thing to behold. What they accomplish is comparable to a symphony orchestra in the tightness and timing. Plus, Tony Levin is part of the crowd. I missed their alleged last tour ever last year, then they came around again. Pretty exceptional.

That through me for a loop. Could have sworn that was Levin playing his ever popular 'stick'.
What a distinctive sound - never heard this particular cut but knew at once who it had to be. More and more I think they were "ahead of their time", whatever that really means. Maybe more like "from a parallel universe": almost but not quite fitting in with ours - in a way that makes me take notice and question my assumptions about what feels and sounds "comfortable".
Anybody that says they can't dance to this isn't really trying.

Nice!  What memories, I'm sure.
Sorry, forgot Tony Levin.  Would be nice to hear more music with Tony Levin playing.
Yes, please, play more King Crimson, both old and new.  Fripp, Eno, Belew, we could stand to hear more from these gentlemen.
I would never have recognized this as King Crimson, but it's quite nice. I like it better than most of their older stuff I've heard. (Not much of a fan of prog rock.)

It's a detail from "Fin de Siecle"  (End of the Century) by P.J. Crook - a British painter and sculptor, and no, it has nothing to do with the past, present, or future state of American health care.

Darn — I wish it were going to be SACD, but I'll take what I can get.  I know neither format is really doing well, but some of my favorite albums have been remastered and remixed tastefully (!!!) in SACD 5.1 and when it's done right, it's almost like hearing them again for the first time.  The Depeche Mode and Genesis remasters/remixes in SACD 5.1 are stunning, as is Roxy Music's "Avalon," Steely Dan's "Gaucho," Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms" and Mark Knopfler's "Shangri-La" (which is just incredible).

I'm getting goosebumps just thinking of a Wilson remaster of their back catalogue.
Besides, DTS (DVD-Audio) kills SACD in dynamic range and top end signal-to-noise.
The proprietary SACD 1-bit sampling equipment introduces or fails to filter out some rather nasty noise around the 60khz range. This noise is noticeable as beat frequency artifacts on top end tweeters but is filtered out mechanically on stuff like soft domes. ;)

Yep...really - per dgmlive.com (mail order) "This classic album has been mixed for 5.1 Surround Sound from the original studio masters by Steven Wilson and is fully approved by Crimson founder Robert Fripp." in DVD-A high Res.

To me it sounds damn good.

Love Crimso.

No matter the personnel on their many incarnations, this 'band' knows how to push the limits of modern music.  This is VERY tasty, no?

Love this song.  Just realized that I'm also starting to recognize Fripp's signature guitar work.

Not one of King Crimson's better albums overall (even among those in the Belew era), but this is a great song.  It feels like a throwback to THRAK, which I really enjoy.  Seeing the double trio formation of King Crimson live a few times was a real treat.

Don't bother. I love, love, love King Crimson but "The Power to Believe" is a terrible album – "Thrak" was their last good one. If you don't have that, I'd recommend it. There are a couple of songs on there that sound like "Eyes Wide Open", but better.
