Oh, the gentlemen are talking and the midnight moon is on the riverside,
They're drinking up and walking and it is time for me to slide.
I live in another world where life and death are memorized,
Where the earth is strung with lovers' pearls and all I see are dark eyes.

A cock is crowing far away and another soldier's deep in prayer,
Some mother's child has gone astray, she can't find him anywhere.
But I can hear another drum beating for the dead that rise,
Whom nature's beast fears as they come and all I see are dark eyes.

They tell me to be discreet for all intended purposes,
They tell me revenge is sweet and from where they stand, I'm sure it is.
But I feel nothing for their game where beauty goes unrecognized,
All I feel is heat and flame and all I see are dark eyes.

Oh, the French girl, she's in paradise and a drunken man is at the wheel,
Hunger pays a heavy price to the falling gods of speed and steel.
Oh, time is short and the days are sweet and passion rules the arrow that flies,
A million faces at my feet but all I see are dark eyes

Is that why there were potato peels on the floor when I got in the elveator this morning?

You mean - you've never peeled potatoes while riding in an elevator? Next you'll be claiming you've never pipped cherries while riding the escalator. Tshah!
whoa

thought  it was joe jackson
Cool! Thanks for playing.

Sam does incredible covers. Favorites are Flaming Lips 'Superman' and New Orders 'Love Vigilantes'.

Oči čarnije (or something like that in Russian I guess).

Most Dylan songs are much better when not sung by Dylan.

I like Calexico and Iron & Wine (that I discovered here, so thanks for that!) but this is not their best work. Is it because it's a cover? I don't find what usually gets me with those two bands: excellent instrumental arrangements for Calexico, or sweet harmonies with Iron & Wine.
It's still "quite likeable" though :)
I'm not sure I've heard the Dylan version but I like this better.

Iron & Wine is the perfect candidate for the generic term of "elevator music". Which means you can listen to it successfully while peeling potatoes. It even helps. Utterly remarkable is Bill's passion for it. :)

lol!  and when you start your own internet radio "station" you can completely avoid all Iron & Wine tracks as you see fit!

Groovin
Didn't realise music as inoffensive as this would polarise opinion in such a fashion.
'Pleasant' doesn't necessarily mean 'deplorable'

I love the complex collaborations these guys put together
These guys suck. Just like their weak name. Pleeeeeze!  Why u Play is beyond me. Yuk
Not a huge fan of either group but I like this effort.
Great film

This isn't best track on soundtrack
Try Knocking on Heavens by Antony and The Johnsons
and One More Cup of Coffee by Roger McGuinn
Sounds like boring to me.

Reminds me of Two Silver Trees by Calexico.

amazing. i love this. Esp the different hand drums and xylaphone
The music has a fine almost far eastern quality about it, refreshing, thank you.
lame!
Sorry, I like both these guys, but not this cover.  For me, it misses the core of the tune.  A pity.
Dylan is such an amazing songwriter... as long as someone else is doing their interpretation of his song.

Interesting to say the least. Judy Collins did a nice version of this one on the album, Judy sings Dylan.
The only thing wrong with this song is that it's not on the "Iron and Wine" album!

Whatever! You can't take credit for getting a song played that is played everyday anyway!!!

Absolutely.

Very nice!!
WONDERFUL!

Reminds me of "BAYIA's" eyes!

I was amazed to find this is a Dylan song.  It has so much the character of of Iron & Wine's music.  The xylophone in this is very nice, very hypnotic, (unlike the one coming up in Tull's "Skating Away").    {#Headache}

I remember buying "Empire Burlesque" and hearing it for the first time. I thought it SUCKED!!!!!! Until the last track... Epiphany. One of Bob's best song ever. Gorgeous...astounding song. I remember being annoyed at having to buy and suffer through the rest of the album but hell, it's such an amazing song. Almost worth it. Flash forward to 2008 and I hear this Calexico version. Very, very beautiful treatment of a worthy song. Be sure and check out the rest of the soundtrack album.

I pretty much completely agree with you. The production on Empire Burlesque is dated and awful, although Bob's lyrics are top-notch. The songs on the album are ripe for covering and I&W and Calexico have done a good job with this one.

Everything about Iron & Wine has me addicted immediately. Add a little Calexico and let the magic begin. 1st time I've heard this and already hoping that it won't end.
First time I heard IRON and WINE was on TheSixtyOne.com
Love their songs, I still can't pinpoint what it is that makes me crave this, but it's always satisfying on the ears

Love Sam Beam, and this is a really good movie.

This music has what 49 out of 50 songs miss - athmopshere and magic!
GORGEOUS!
"9"

Pretty good. I don't hate it.
Mindbendingly great, this. Iron & Wine and Calexico should really extend their collaboration to a full album's worth, not just scattershot soundtracks and mini-albums here and there. The sum is so much greater than the individual parts, methinks.
Further proof that songs with a xylophone kick ass!
This was an awesome set - thanks
It's taken me a while to decide if I like either of these bands but I'm at a point now where I can identify them both and I do like them. Another without RP I'd never have know about _______ (fill in the blank) moment!
Yup there is something subliminal going on with this tune... First time I heard it I wasn't impressed but the more I listen to it the more I like it... maybe we should play it backwards?
sorta dark-sounding to me ...

Loving this song a little more each time I hear it. Thumbs up.
I'm really starting to enjoy this song, it's grown on me a lot the past couple of weeks.
8 9
this works
The vocals sound a bit like Maynard from Tool, don't you think. Love this song.
This is a GREAT soundtrack. If you have the open mind Dylan speaks to in his style, you'll like it. Highly recommended.

You can buy the CD version (hi fidelity) of this album on Amazon for $17 or you can buy the MP3 version (lo fidelity) for $34. I love modern audio economics.

This one is crawling up into my head. The more times I hear it the more I like it.
