I woke you up with poetry and stones
The ragged and the bones
Strewn around the room
I recall another hazy may
Take a round in the ring
Gone hungry for the win…
Here's the part I just lose everything
I cracked a spark just to hear you sing
Sing…
I took it out
The papers and the trash
Old among the cans
This golden love gone bad
Shined it up
Aiming at the sun
Just a light year from us
Hop a cab ride and we're off..
And all the ravens came along to play
The simple notes you sang just went astray
Everything was up, its coming down
Everything was up, its coming down
Coming down
The ragged and the bones
Strewn around the room
I recall another hazy may
Take a round in the ring
Gone hungry for the win…
Here's the part I just lose everything
I cracked a spark just to hear you sing
Sing…

Everything was up, its coming down

Coming down

Great to hear this gem again on RP! Mr. Isakov has been busy lately -- his brand-new album, Appaloosa Bones, is out -- it's dreamy, intimate, and typically spell-binding; such a credit to his genius and artistic gifts! He's playing up in Dillon tonight, and at Red Rocks tomorrow, then he's leaving his Starling Farm in Boulder County, (see his website for info about the amazing work and generous, beneficial things he does there) and heading off on a US and World Tour. He had me as a fan from when I first heard him here on RP, and my admiration has only grown. It's always a treat to hear his soothing, heartfelt songs, and I'm grateful and happy for him!
Great Live show in Sunderland earlier this year!
Bought the album based on hearing this on RP. The entire thing is great.
I had RP on in B.G. (as I always do) and thought it was a Neil Young track I'd not heard before! Must look this guy up
I keep hearing Andrew Bird in this track. Liking it.

Tonight is one of those nights where everything is working for me on RP.
I know, plenty of people have those nights all the time.
But here's what I mean:
For me, everything fits tonight. Everything works. Tonight, even when Jethro Tull plays, it fits. It works. And I hate Jethro Tull. But tonight, it is all part of a greater whole, and it is working.
This is the kind of night (or day, or morning) that sets RP apart from almost any other music source I know.
Truly amazing.

WHY have I never heard of him? This is lovely. Reminiscent of early Ray La Montagne, or a kind of shadow box of Neil Young. Beautifully tender.

GAI is my favorite. Of all time.
I was listening to NPR a few days ago, driving out for an early morning walk to beat the heat. And on comes an interview with his truly...he ends it with praising magic. I had to pull over so I wouldn't lose reception.
I've never known before what it means to be a fan, what it feels like. It feels like you're alive at the same time a person is who is channeling magical beauty, and you thank them from the bottom of your heart for sharing their gift. For igniting awe in you.

Only time I've seen Isakov live, was about 2009, at a small venue with about two-dozen people. I fell in love with his voice and songwriting then. A fan ever since.
He hits inside the park homers for me

deep deep love
I thought this was Travis, until I checked. Too whiney.
at last, a voice to rival squeel young in grating on the nerves
here comes the next squeaking whiner, right after travis :( how did this sort of 'singing' ever become a trend?
ahhhhh, love this song
Never heard of him, pretty good, just what I'm looking for from RP.
Been listening all this Sunday afternoon, and simply love your station RP, Thank YOU!
just beautiful music.
just beautiful music.
Yep, gonna have to get me this album.
Can't give it more than a 4. Some of those phrases are just too weirdly drawn out (one where he stretches the word "stray" was not good; at least I think that was the word he was singing).
All his work is simply beautiful!
Thanks RP for playing this...
Never heard of him before...

I'm glad I'm hearing this again. Can use this song right now.
Such a beautiful song!
Beautiful song. Thank you RP.
Got this kid coming to play in Brighton later in the year as part of his UK tour. Great live performer, see him if you can.
I like the ultra contemplative feel of this mellow tune. Some good ole' reexamine oneself with a glass of wine and a 'WTFC'!!!
I tend to like this uber-mellow fare, but I can see how it's not everyone's cup of tea. Music for the sedated by the sedated.
Wake me up when this musical pablum is over.
I have yet to hear a bad song from this man. Love it, even the imperfect struggle to reach the high note.
Awesome, Bill. Thanks for putting another song of his on your playlist. Gregory is simply amazing. He's got another album coming out soon too. Saw him in concert a few weeks ago (twice) and heard some of his new songs. I can't wait!
This put me in a mellow mood - perfect for the day. I like it!

Fair enough, and good point. He is a bit weak on the old high register, though. 5 from the Nottingham jury.
Nice segue from Cello Song; I too think this song has a Nick Drake feel. As for the crack about his singing - give the man props for reaching for those high notes and not using auto-tune. I'd rather hear some human imperfection in a beautiful song, like this one; than hear computer generated "help" in some mindless pop drivel.

Nice tune, but I wonder what he did with the money his mommy gave him for singing lessons.
Soothing... normally this is exactly what I wouldn't like but having just come into the cool, dark cave from the ugliness outside it sounds really good.
