Man, how I love this song! A wonderfully perfect blend of Western guitar, African rhytm, and that lovely melodic Tamasheq (Tuareg) language.
What a discovery, thank RP!
I Agree!! Very well stated!!

I turn off my brain when I read such comments... And my potty mouth :)
No one cares about your expert commentary
He lit up the (free) scene and had a huge crowd of Westerners dance to his African desert music.
What a delight to experience
You Lucky Duck! I wish I was there!!

Where else can you hear this? Thanks RP!
You could always splash out on their CD
Good tune, but sounds like it has the same vile production of The Black Keys.
Don't get this at all. Great production on all their CDs I've bought
Someone gave that a 10? Others gave it 9? Somethin' fishy goin' on!
A regular RP "ethnic-type" sorta thing : 5 at best!
i give your comment a 1
Love Bombino btw. I don't understand the hate. I prefer Bombino instead of the mediocre Americana that seems to be popular by the listeners.
There are many ways to attempt to disguise racism. Some are quite subtle.
This one isn't.
I'm an American of Western European descent who loves Tuareg music and Bombino. Even bought one of his albums, a rarity these days. Upped rating form 8 to 9 on this tune.
I turn off the radio when I hear this.
Cool, we're not sharing the moment!

This guy is a absolute genius with a guitar!
It might very well be, but having the 1973 version, even with a punch up to an RC 840 cc kit, lifting the front wheel off the pavement would be a feat. The bike was heavy and very well balanced, which when punched up made it great for drag races and highway touring. AND now that I've read your post I'm going to reminisce about the great times I had on that bike every time this song gets played! Thanks buddy!
That's what Photoshop is for. Just rotate the bike a bit.
Looks to me like a 1971 Honda CB750, but not absolutely sure. Africans are capable of assembling bikes out of anything, just like in Mad Max.

Bye bye..again.
Bombino: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Agreed.
RP is really good most of the time.
but I am getting tired of it at the same time
Agreed. Bombino has lots of good stuff. Add some variety, please. BTW, there's a good Youtube performance video for this song.
Bombino then joined Tidawt, a band by Nigerien musician Hasso Akotey, which led to his first time in North America as the band was brought to perform in an exhibit of Tuareg art organized by the Cantor Center for Visual Arts. While there, Tidawt was invited by saxophonist Tim Ries to perform in his new album of The Rolling Stones versions, Stone's World: The Rolling Stones Project Volume 2, where they played in a cover of "Hey Negrita", which also featured band members Keith Richards and Charlie Watts. Bombino later said he had never heard of The Rolling Stones, given that white rock musicians do not have a strong following in Africa.
So you don't understand that the music you like is also ethnic do you?

It's the music, stupid!
I'm totally at the other end of the spectrum and I can't stand that guitar tone! And it is simply that sound I can't bear - I quite like most 'world music', but that jangly twangy guitar is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me!
Each to their own, eh?!
I like that twangy, "Fendery" tone with just the right touch of overdrive - though he doesn't always use Fender guitars. I think Dan Auerbach produced this album and he seems to like that tone with the slight distortion too. As you said (sort of) "to each their own".
but I am getting tired of it at the same time

It sounds a little cleaner to me and it doesn't have the muffled vocals that the Black Keys seem to be obsessed with.
Yes. Great timely lyrics too.

Me too. The albums (Desert Blues1 and 2) are still in steady rotation in my playlist.
It is a cool groove - interesting guitar work.

Ps I love the previous comment about a bike in the dessert. I have visions of it getting stuck in lakes of melting ice cream or crushed by rocks of meringue.

Welcome to the Global Village.
8 from me
Not sure. Found the artist perryshall.com. About the cover:
The man is Bombino (Omar Moctar) himself. Dan and the label had some ideas of Bombino on the motorcycle riding through the dessert. I was the person to make that happen. I don't know if there's much else besides the technique and other ideas I could bring to the table. I'm stoked on it and the record itself is amazing.
Yeah baby - lets go - I'm dancin on a midden made of lion excrement right now

I gave it a nine. This album is currently in heavy rotation at Poacher Mansions.
'Ethnic'? All music is sort of 'ethnic' :)
I bought "Amidinine" right after hearing it here...
