Ingest, where it goes, nobody sees but me
So perfect and so sweet
But the rest, feels incomplete
Like the rabbit's foot I keep
In the locket, with no key

And I can't take it, I can't take this world without
This world without you
I can't take it, I can't take it on my own
On my own

On these roads
Out of love, so it goes
How it feels when we fall, when we fold
How we lose control, on these roads
How it sings as it goes
Flight of field, driving snow
Knows the cold

Ran round the wailing world

And what's a song without you?
When every song I write is about you
When I can't hold myself without you
And I can't change the day I found you

On these roads
Out of love, so it goes
How it feels when we fall, when we fold
How we lose control, on these roads
How it sings as it goes
Flight of field, driving snow
Knows the cold

Out of love, so it goes
How it feels when we fall, when we fold
How we lose control, on these roads
How it sings as it goes
Flight of field, driving snow
Knows the cold
Ran round the wailing world

another cracker foot-tapper from FI!
I have come to love that instantly recognizable bass, the shimmering drumbeats, and fabulous, manic, talented singing of this band!
Such a great bass line
not a fan of FI, . .maybe they will grow on me . . .
must have been in a bad mood when I rated this before

Bring it on.  Getting kind of tired of everything nowadays being either noodly acoustic hipster music, EDM, or hip hop.  We need to shake things up a bit.
Never seen a live act like this.  He's just an incredible person!

This is being overplayed to death on RP.  At least it is for me.  I must have heard every one of the 5 plays this month...at least.
Welcome to the  1980's  this band is so bad. A 1 rating is generous.
again and anothertime - thanks RP for playing this and other great music - I really love to listen to RP - most of my LPs, CDs and MP3s rest in peace since I came up to RP :-)
Found out this band started at East Carolina University where my daughter when to school.

I believe when it pertains to programming music, the word is spelled "segue".

I love this comment
Watching Herring perform makes my knees hurt.
Yet another artist that I am growing to appreciate that I would not know about other than through listening to RP. Thank you for always expanding my tastes in music!
You'd be hard press to find a band that works any harder than Future Island, just take a look at their historic tour schedules!  I was so fortunate to see them Malkin Bowl with Eagles abound.  I just love their music.
It's early 80's UK music again.
Love this played L O U D

That's how I feel too, in fact I'd maybe give this one an 8 except all the vitriol for FI makes that 8 an easy 9....Long Live RP!!

I'll raise you. 9 up to 10

Mr Herring and his fellow Future Islanders always put a big smile on my face.
something about this band's music, unfortunately I find deeply irritating.

Musical horror. Overrated. And played too often.

Yeah, kind of reminded me of Fine Young Cannibals from the early 90s.  But that's a good thing, IMO.

There is a similarity, but FYC tended to vary the tempos and rhythms of their songs more than these guys do.
Every time I hear this song it annoys me more. I don't know why, but I hate it.

I disagree, but that’s the beauty of music, some you love some you hate some you are indifferent to.
I was at a friend's house and happened to find a Future Islands LP in the stack. (That's a commitment as in NZ it would have set her back $37). Had heard some on RP and with time to kill I strapped in. Sadly found I enjoyed the LP less than the odd single on RP. Ah Well. Sometimes it just doesn't add up to anything.

Also found the Emmylou Harris -> John Hiatt -> Future Islands segue a bit off, which is saying a lot for RP. Maybe it's an off morning. It'll change
Very Nice Segway!

These guys were clearly influenced by (or "borrow from") a lot of the "synth-pop/new wave" bands from the 1980s but I doubt if they've ever heard of that band or that song (Secret Service - "Oh, Susie").  Secret Service was barely known outside of Europe and the members of Future Islands weren't even born when that song came out.  I don't disagree with your assessment of "old wine in new bottles", it's just probably not that particular old wine.

Perhaps you are confusing the Ruler of the Northern Kingdom with Stephen Hawking?

BillG - here's about the 1,000,000th THANK YOU to you and RebeccaG for providing your station to us.  This has quickly become one of my favorite tunes (a 9 for now) and up there with Elbow and Spoon as groups you've opened my eyes to - and that's where the thanks comes in.  So there.  THANKS again!

Long Live RP!!

My priors are favourable meaning I am favourably biased towards Future Islands.  That said, I do agree with other posters who note the sameness of sound.

So far, I enjoy the new material but not enough to reach for the wallet.
Wondering what a concert of FI would be like. They seem to recycle the same song, albeit a good one. But it seems like it would get old by intermission or so…
