Violent times
Almost lost you in these violent times
I forgot people could be so kind
In these violent times

Dollar signs
Almost lost it chasing dollar signs
Know the cost, but I forgot the price
Of buying my lie

I must have been dreaming
I fell down the well
Waking up
Waking up in hell

Different eyes
You're the same, but I've got different eyes
How could I ever have been so blind?
Blame these violent times

When all of the bombs inside
All of the wires I hide
All of the wasted nights chasing mortality
When in the ashes of Pompeii
Lovers discovered in an embrace for all eternity

I must have been dreaming
I fell down the well
But I swear you were hearing me
Through the noise and static and the call

that's... wow.  I mean, 26th freakin all-time?

for her use of ... distortion? whoa, who'd expect distortion, in rock guitar?

For her use of distortion, yes. Not the distortion itself. In other words: the (presumably) unique way she uses distortion.
Ok, whatever, banana coming.

"26th-greatest guitarist of all time"?  Can someone recommend a couple of her tracks that showcase her guitar-playing?

Just imagine this sung by Shirley Bassey. Quintessential Bond music. I'd call it a genre mixing modern and classical music with high emotion and grandiose soaring melodies.

With an undercurrent of suspense and menace.
I would like to propose that we have a set of "not-Bond" theme songs. RP has at least 5? This is absolutely one of them

Ruining? There's some great tracks on The Center Won't Hold (produced by St. Vincent). That was a really interesting album. Or do you mean that St. Vincent played some part in the leaving of their long-time drummer Janet Weiss?
Someone went to some Goldfrapp gigs
Good James Bond song but needs Shirley Bassey on guest vocals
Bond. James Bond.
immediately thought, "James Bond theme." Amazing
Another great addition to RP's playlist. Thank you!
i think, this is the next Bond title - what else ;-)

Exactly my thought from the opening verse.

I was thinking more along the lines of Goldfrapp...

Yes.

Really like the structure of the lyrics and the music is very catchy. Starting at an 8.

I'm curious whether she intentionally picked a phrase that sounds like "Valentines."

Violent Times & Valentines sounds like the name of a Pogues album.
I expect you to die, Mr. Bond.
James Bond theme?
Kate Bush-esque?  I like it!

new?, old?, very old?, Bond theme?? Brand New? WOW!!

I was thinking the same thing... slow it down a little and it's the perfect Bond theme.

It's St. Vincent, so almost assuredly :). She's a master of subversion and lyricism, among other things
Beautiful song, beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful outfit. I'm captivated :o)
Channelling Garbage here ...

Not sure why exactly, but I keep hearing strains of "You're Lost Little Girl" by the Doors.
