Michael Gerson  column in today’s Washington Post distinguishes authenticity and character, imploring a return to character for a President. Column includes this point:

If my immediate thoughts were magically communicated to millions of people in 280-character increments before my morning coffee , the result would be embarrassing and frightening, not least to me.

I am going to predict a Biden win.
Because, not unlike the last election when more people voted for trump than were willing to admit, the same is occurring for Biden.

And he should win.
Not just to get rid of the pest,
But also to get the democrats back on track, particularly in cities like Seattle and Portland…
Also, it will allow the republicans to get back to their true base.
Another 4 years of trump, and these politicians will be further polarized, further from the center.
Biden, despite his obvious shortcomings, can help the country get back to be more centered/ balanced.

Scott??    Anthropogenic climate disruption is complicated, compared to a lot of public policy issues

The pandemic is pretty damn simple and President Sociopath has yet to learn.

Regardless of the outcome this week, the fundamental dichotomy in the US remains to be resolved: are we a basically white, fuck-anyone-who-tries-to-tell-me-what-to-do maverick chasing some kind of childish dream of wealth and freedom and buggar the costs or are we a grown-up global citizen who can take responsibility for their actions and care for others.

It's like watching an impulsive teenager. I fear the US has got a long and hard road ahead of it before the teenage part of it grows up.

Sadly, far too many Americans are giving fascism the side eye because they think it looks pretty damned hawt.

Lot of truth in this, more of an irritation rant that uses hyperbole to vent frustration.  Vote if you like, I am fine with it.  The beauty of the futility of choices and the hardened cast of a seemingly unshakeable system is it can't hurt.{#Lol}{#Sad}

Fortunately for all of us Biden is just a figurehead to try and put in front of the podium, but time is running out.  They are just hoping he can somehow hold up for a couple more weeks if they win so Harris can take over officially and they can literally put Joe back to bed.{#Eek}

Though I am pretty sure my candidate is not going to win and that is she thank you very much.{#Lol} Almost all of you are sexist for not voting for a woman for President. See how silly that sounds? Well you actually are voting for a woman for President, but you know what I mean.

See what has happened in Seattle for instance.  And long before that, in Baltimore.

I have no horse in this race because I have the bigger view that we are screwed long term regardless and there is a certain comfort in that, but personally I see some advantages of a Harris victory in that it will show the most die hard Trump fans that have lost their mind that the world is not going to end with a Democratic President and it will show the most die hard progressives who have lost their mind that the Democrats aren't the answer either.  At least that is my hope and of course no one here would want to admit it, but if Harris wins there will be little violence and destruction if at all, but if Trump wins.......

The entire Midwest will be turned into a refugee  camp. That sounds ominous!

Good one kurtster.  I agree, the inner city looting and property destruction cannot be justified.  But at least,  nobody expects the police to side with looters regardless of their colour.
