William Thompson emigrated to California from England in1863. He began to propagate grape cuttings in1872 and in 1875 he announced the development of a white, seedless fruit that we know today as Thompson's seedless grape. William became so involved in promoting and marketing his development that he soon received the nickname, "Seedless Thompson," even though he had sired seven sons.
