In 1972 the Herman Goelitz Candy Company of Fairfield California pioneered a new item they called a "Cherry Berry."  When it returned from its test marketing in Asia (where the locals had dubbed it the "Chelly Belly") it became an instant favorite.

Taking a clue from Ben and Jerry's "Cherry Garcia", Herman & Co. quickly adjusted the flavor and called it "Jerry Berry," which they also sent to Asia for test marketing.  The rest is history.

Little known facts and unsubstantiated rumors about yellowjackets:

They are ground-dwellers by nature, but the eaves of your house are too easy and they're lazy.

They eat meat early in the season then resort to sugar later on.

If you cut one in half and it's been that way for quite a while, the back end can still sting you.

When you smash one or give one a near-death experience, it sends out a pheromonal bat-signal to other yellowjackets telling them that they should attack you.

Yellowjackets are fond of showtunes.

I learned the term "pestiferous" when researching how to dispatch a colony of yellowjackets that had moved into my attic. I enjoy saying "pestiferous" now.
