So when you live on an island by yourself, for example, you have the ultimate in socialism/statism, right?  Because in this situation the size of the government has expanded to its maximum size, until it equals the size of the population (self rule of one).  What a horrible irony!!  What's a libertarian hermit to do?

It's just the nature of the people who are drawn to work in government. They love the power and control.

The people who want to work in govt to restrain it, and use that authority/role properly without abusing power, are very much the exception to the rule.

This is why govts almost always grow in size, mostly for the worse...

Absolutely agree. It is another example of our police forces becoming militarized. My point was, we seem unable to keep off the slippery slope, you know? Start using neato sci-fi stuff for good practical uses, and all of a sudden somebody wants to use it for unConstitutional purposes.

Rationality and reasoned discourse seem to have disappeared.

I'm good with those uses, but it's already a fact that local police forces are allowed to use drones.

I will take the supposed dangers of living free, than to have some drone flying over my back yard supposedly 'keeping me safe'.

Now combine those drones, with the NDAA bill Obama just signed, and there's your scientific tyranny.

The thing is, I can envision some really great applications for drones like that. Border monitoring. Search and Rescue missions. Wildfire detection and monitoring. Meteorology. All very useful. The problem is, once they start using them for stuff like that, it's much easier to use them for things they shouldn't, like unauthorized searches.

What Ms. Maddow was getting at is that Mr. Paul suggests that there is somehow a "dishonest" rape - in other words, suggesting that a victim is lying. He is not calling "every woman a liar" by saying so, he is inferring that possible rape victims may be lying.  Have you ever known a rape victim?   I know more than a few - good luck bringing their cases to court.  His remarks were insensitive at best, though he was questioned in a very challenging and extreme method for that interview.

Liars exist, man or woman. I understand his remarks as a brutally honest observation. Some people do and will act completely selfish and irresponsible if they know they can get bailed out. It's not the norm, but that behavior does in fact exist, as despicable as it is. That is how I understand his point. If someone is a victim, they are to be treated as such - but if you give anyone and everyone a bailout, it's possible that behavior is going to be encouraged.

I resent the fact that Maddow and others are distorting that into something it isnt. It's an emotional topic and she makes a living off of taking advantage and manipulating context. It sure isn't the first time.

"Honest" is code for "not date rape" or some other situation where the victim can be blamed.

Sounds like a Frank Lutz poll to me.

From my experience, I can not make any blanket claims like that. My mother in law is a conservative evangelical, and she is the most generous giving person I know. My parents are conservative, not very religous but they are on the selfish, non-giving side, and my brother who is a religious neocon is a complete selfish tightwad.
