No, he didn't. He managed to produce an admirable life's work anyway, and there are a hell of a lot of people who follow these admonitions to the letter and never do anything memorable, or even worthwhile. So it goes. I guess if I had to distill some lesson from this it would be "Do more good than harm." If you want to live the life of a slovenly libertine, accomplish as much positive as Franklin did to offset it.
