Different approaches work for each, but I do say it should be a physical CD exchange, no matter which way it goes. While I understand the appeal of digital music being exchanged, I think that sort of defeats the original intent you had for the group. Or did I misunderstand? EDIT: Then again, this is your project... so whatever you decide should be the way it goes. I like this best, at least at first. Not sure what multiple host means. Is that where you send a disc to several people who then recopy and forward new copies ?

While I understand the appeal of digital music being exchanged, I think that sort of defeats the original intent you had for the group. Or did I misunderstand? Nope - you hit it on the nose. I wanted to do this for the love of mixtapes. The actual physical, tangible sexy little things of my past, present, and future. I think I like the one-on-one exchange the best as far as time, expense, and feasability goes. In addition to the one-on-one, I do like the idea of uploading my cover art, liner notes, and mix to Scott's mac server for anyone who might be interested in getting their fix that way. This of course would also be an optional afterthought. Any thoughts?

EDIT: Then again, this is your project... so whatever you decide should be the way it goes. I don't mind sending multiples. I got a ton of blanks around the house and I can splurge maybe $20 on postage. But yea, it could get expensive if group is big. I like the small group idea. Especially if you get a new small group each month. Like 5-8 people per group? That would be manageable, and you'd get 5-8 mixes in return, so...

Road trip mixes are the best, natch. For the giddyup music, we might need disclaimers about speeding tickets caused by listening to the mixes.

I was thinking that we could vote on a theme each month, you could let me know if you are interested in taking on that theme, I would make a list of all those interested, and give someone a name to send to like the gift swap idea. You don't have to particiate every month and you would only have one person to send to. Then of course we would all share what we got here on this thread.

Sort of the way the gift swaps have worked here, just with CDs. I don't know how many people you've got signed up for this yet, but it could be split into smaller groupings and the "co-hosts" (I think you mentioned the idea of them at some point) for that month could each get a small group that they send CDs to of their own making... This is going to be fun. I just took a peak at song ratings. Lots of diversity and similarity.
And these are just the songs played here.
