I don't know if WCPE in Raleigh, NC has been mentioned in this thread but it's an outstanding classical music station. It streams online at https://theclassicalstation.org/ and you can find it on the FM dial at 89.7 in the Raleigh/Durham area. I think it's FM broadcast is played elsewhere around the country by sister stations. An outstanding playlist and a colorful cast of DJs.

One of my favs with an eclectic mix of songs, weird interstitials, old commercials and other fun random things is Planet Pootwaddle. They're on iTunes, the web, and have an app.  Can also be played via TuneIn on Alexa etc (although Alexa can't understand "pootwaddle" so I had to make a routine to get it to play). Nowhere near as sophisticated technology wise as RP (no song skipping, alternate streams, lossless etc) but still a good time.

wfuv.org out of Fordham University has a decent quality stream of mostly new music.  And on Sunday's at 11 they have Catholic mass for all you heathens to get religion.  (Actually, they have some pretty good priests/sermons, if you happen to be so inclined)

Yeah kinda.
When they start playing that repetitious EDM stuff, or the pseudo rap garbage... I move on quickly.

88.5 has been playing a cool song by Pedro the Lion called "Yellow Bike".
A very nostalgic tune.
I even "Submitted" it here on R. Paradise.

Shameless plug to try to get it on the playlist.

Justine gets kinda swoony when they come on. David's kind of an acquired taste but yeah, Yellow Bike upvote on the way.

I'll second that plug for 88.5 if you're in the LA area — or via the web, of course. Much nicer mix than what KCRW puts out these days.

What happened to KCRW?
They don't play much music as is.
Way to much NPR stuff for my taste. I want music... not talk!

When they got rid of Gary Calamar and replaced him with some EDM DJ they lost me.
Well...  I still listen to "Morning Comes Eclectic" as long as Jason Bentley is still hosting it.

We pull up Eclectic24 (KCRW's all-music channel), but it can be too precious a lot of the time.

Haven't listened to that. but it's probably pretty similar to their 9am-12 show (Morning Becomes Eclectic), which I hear pretty often, as KCRW is the only listenable station on the FM dial where we're currently living.

I find it to be about 25% good, 50% boring (and yes, 'precious' is a good descriptor for much of it) , and 25% just freckin' horrible. I mean, like a continuum from 'what were they thinking?' to 'they're deliberately torturing me now, right?'.

Maybe you could add a rating of 0: 'they're deliberately torturing me now, right?' to RP's song rating system. Not that you guys sink so low that often...

They let him go and he moved over to 88.5 along with another great DJ from KCRW's past Nic Harcourt.
This is a "college" radio station- listener supported, so they don't play commercials!
Not a bad mix of music. And they play a lot of rare gems. Along with current "Indie" goodies.

Thanks for the tip. I preset it on my Bose.

I know that you are implicitly referring to stations that play music but I thought I would put a plug in for NPR and NPR podcasts.

Overall, the quality of journalism is absolutely top notch.

Now and then i get a craving for some classic blues-rock. Accuradio has a decent channel for that.

I got hooked the first time i tried it. It started with an Allman Brothers tune (i forget the title), then Jimi's "Hear my train a coming" (long electric version), followed by SRV's "Lenny". Can't go wrong with that.
