FWIW, here's my take.

Sometimes instead of syncing to the Web stream, I 'play something I like'. That means all songs I've rated 7 or higher will be included in the stream. I call it my 7-up Music. 

So whenever I want to rate a song 6 or 7, I stop to think whether I want that song in my 7-up Music. Yes? Then it's a 7. No? Then it's a 6.

As for the words associated with the rating numbers, about the only time I look at the words is when I can't make up my mind on the rating. The words sometimes help me make up my mind.

Sorry, running out of bands that people love to dump on but I am sure that others have lots of suggestions to take the rating intervals to 10.

I'd like to hijack this rant to restate my own rating system request:

We need a new category - 'Epic' 11(because Spinal Tap).  The kicker is that you only get 4 of these. If you use all 4, you have to demote one before you can upvote another.

We also need a sub rating system for more cowbell (A), less cowbell (B) and no cowbell (C)

It would work like this ...

8 A  or 8 B or 8 C

Of course it could never apply to a 10.

Must admit that I do stumble on 10 as "Godlike".    And here I thought most of us were secular this and secular that. 

Then there is popular story (up here at any rate) that God did not rest on the 7th day but she lifted up the corner of the earth so all the nuts rolled out to British Columbia.    That story is usually told by atheists and agnostics.   In fact, BC atheists, agnostics and other heretics frequently describe the place as "God's country".  

Figure of speech?   Or an indicator of something much more profound?  At the core of every atheist is a 'true believer'?
