Early public surveys immediately following the debate indicated that Biden was down overall a point or two, and surveys that asked respondents to rate the debate itself had him losing by midâdouble digits. As a means of damage control, the campaign leaked some of its own internal polling â which had been until recently regarded as a state secret â to argue that the debate had not moved the needle: The president was losing by a slim margin before Thursday night, and he was still losing by that slim margin after Thursday night. In the days that followed, the polls would only grow grimmer.
âIn fact,â Biden went on, âthe big takeaway are Trumpâs lies ⦠The point is, I didnât have a great night and neither did he.â
He returned to the central message of his campaign: âThe fact is that Donald Trump is a genuine threat to democracy, and thatâs not hyperbole. Heâs a genuine threat. Heâs a threat to our freedom, heâs a threat to our democracy, heâs literally a threat to America and what we stand for ⦠Ask yourself the question: If not for America, who would lead the world?â

They are correct. I can't wait for next week's cover commentary on why it's not good to let a convicted felon who believes he is above the law to be the leader of a nation of laws. Maybe a few weeks later we'll get some decent options and commentary on the things needed to be an effective leader?
The case against the degenerate (convicted or not) was/is more obvious. At least for some. The problem remains beating him.
