When numbers matter more than the heart
Your eyes are hollow and stiffness starts to take control
Capsize the soul, deep down you know it's evil
You've always known

Be a good example show your new tricks
And while you're out there they'll make the pitch
To rally the troops and make a huge contribution
To help push this through
Deep down you know it's evil
You've always known it's evil

The days here are numbered but your record is clean
Outstretched and waiting on banks that seem
To flow and flow, a rich reward to show
Duty carried out in the field
Deep down you know it's evil
You've always known it's evil
You've always known

What he said years ago.
Calexico is the combination of California and Mexico. As well Mexicali (on the mexican side ) is inverted. Both towns are below sea level and  the are kinda piece of hell on earth. Sorry for locals. Mil excusas si alguien se ofende al respecto.

The band did a lot of collaborating with Iron & Wine that's worth checking out too.
Great band to see live if you get the chance. Go out of your way, way out of your way. You won’t be disappointed

We saw them with Andrew Bird - this sounds like an odd combo but it was amazing. They are great live, with or without whistling? kidding, I love to whistle

Bill obviously likes Calexico.
And so do I so I am grateful.
One of the coolest band names too.
32 songs on RP right now. But  40 is  a  much nicer  #.

This must be the January song on RP.  It seems I don't hear it for a long time, then about mid-January Bill plays it and I wonder why I haven't heard it for a year.

Calexico is of the rare groups that I can hear over and over again w/o growing tired of them!

No one knows in advance exactly what's the secret of a successful song, but doing things with discretion, thoroughness, skill, talent and authenticity, very helpful for obtaining this goal....

This is REM lite - meaning that it produces only dry heaves

The point is 'it's evil'. You've always known, it's evil. In it, numbers matter more than the heart. It seeks huge contributions. It rally's pushing troops. And, you've always knowm, it's evil. You've always known. You're record is clean but, you're days here are numbered and the Evil tempts with rich rewards for Duty carried out in the field. And, you've always knowm, it's evil. You've always known. So, what is 'it' that is evil? Where do figures matter more than the heart? Who seeks contributions and pushes troops? It would have to something you've always known is evil. Is it 'evil' to impose a morals free, free for all wealth grab without regard for the species future? Duty that you've always known, is evil. horseplayer wrote:

Big fan of their mexicali sound, but this doesn't do much for me.
This song sounds very different from other Calexico's ones
Very diverse and interesting band

Mostly I like, but there's something irritating about the singer's voice. A bit too androgynous, perhaps. Oh well.

He 'found' them in New York then transported them to who knows where and back then gave them back to the angel Moroni...apparently back in NY again.

This song reminds me a lot of Better than Ezra's "In the Blood".
Seeing these guys next week FOR FREE in Salt Lake City...cheers for the summer concert series!
I'm likin this cut a lot! Got that "building up to something big" feel to it... ...and then it delivers!
Pleasantly surprised at how good this album is.. picked it up recently on e-music and its spent a lot of time in my itunes rotation. Have added some of their older stuff to my wish list.
Nice track, reminds me a bit of Tom Petty.

I got this album a couple of months ago and it spends heavy time in the mp3 player. Album is pretty strong throughout with a lot of little gems. Got turned on to this band through the album they did with Iron and Wine. Two solid groups. Highly recommend this album.

Stuart Smalley's Thought Of The Day: So if we have a band called "Calexico", why don't we have one called "Mexifornia" yet? Other than those posers on MySpace that is?
Sorry, it was Jack Handey, not Stuart Smalley, who had the Deep Thoughts. Stuart Smalley was Al Franken's SNL character, known for his daily affirmations ("I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!"). Also, Calexico is a city in very southern California just across the border from Mexicali, Mexico. I pass it all the time on I-8 heading to San Diego, somewhere you ought to know. Love hearing the Tucson boys here on RP, Bill. Keep 'em coming. Excellent tune.
I really like this song, the background seems to go well with his voice. Seems odd that it is rated as low as it is.
Toured Europe recently with Iron & Wine ...
