Oh, it came out of the sky, landed just a little south of Moline
Jody fell out of his tractor, couldn't believe what he seen
Laid on the ground a-shaking, fearing for his life
Then he ran all the way to town, screaming, "It came out of the sky"

Well, a crowd gathered 'round, and a scientist said it was marsh gas
Spiro came and made a speech, about raising the Mars tax
The Vatican said, "Woe, the Lord has come," Hollywood rushed out an epic film
And Ronnie the Popular said, it was a communist plot

Oh, the newspapers came, and made Jody a national hero
Walter and Eric said they'd put him on a network TV show
The White House said, "Put the thing in the Blue Room"
The Vatican said, "No, it belongs to Rome"
Jody said, "It's mine, but you can have it for seventeen million"

Oh, it came out of the sky, landed just a little south of Moline
Jody fell out of his tractor, couldn't believe what he seen
Laid on the ground a-shaking, fearing for his life
Then he ran all the way to town, screaming, "It came out of the sky"

Bump. 8> 9.  Fun! Funny! And spot on to the shit that never changes. Which is why CCR is a then band for right now.

Ditto all around!
CCR was one of the first artists I bought (on vinyl) when I was waking up to music... circa 1981.  Hot Wax Records & Tapes, in Billings, MT!   I think a Beatles lp would have been my very first record, but CCR was a very solid 2nd purchase.

I'm glad I was part of the music era that wasn't run by computers. Don't get me wrong, computer mixing has contributed all around big time, but there's something to be said for bands such as CCR... the genuine factor is irreplacable.

Doesn't seem possible it was so long ago...then again, who in the Hell makes music anywhere near as passionate as THIS anymore?!

This song is amazingly relevant in the current political/social media age.

Plus ca change?
gotta love Fogarty's ability to still rock. Playing at Woodstock 50, amazing.
Is this a Chuck Berry song? This sounds like it could be a Chuck Berry song.
Recommended for submission in the forthcoming contest for the New United States National Anthem.
I didn't know Chuck Berry sat in on a few songs!

Not at all familiar with this one, but I like it.

I'd fall out of my chair laughing if Bill followed it up with "Purple People Eater."

I think part of John Fogerty's post-CCR, um, less-than-stellar solo career is due to not having a crack rhythm section like Doug Clifford and Stu Cook behind him. Underrated to say the least.

With all due respect to Doug Clifford and Stu Cook, what you say is hogwash
Fun!!!!!

And for years I thought the lyric was "landed just a little south of Orleans!"

About the same difference, I guess, when you're CCR.

I love CCR.  Second favorite band after LZ.
"Walter and Eric said they'd put him on a network TV show"

Walter was the commencement speaker when I got my master's degree at the University of Michigan. As we lined up for the event, I saw him sitting on a nearby bench. There was my hero, right there! I left the line and went over and introduced myself and shook his hand.

I met Cronkite. One of the best days of my life.
I love this! I haven't heard it in such a long time!
My parents had this original album on vinyl and I'd play the hell out of it when I was a kid.
I still have the album.

{#Bananajam}AGREE!!

I usually change the channel when CCR comes on because I've heard their hit songs ad nauseum.  I don't remember this one, and it rocks!

Great song. So much fun. And a wry comment on the age. Ronnie the Popular. Walter and Eric. Perfect Rockabilly meets social commentary and no band did it better than CCR.

agreed!
I love Creedence, but this song is too similar to sweet hitchahiker which is far better

Filler, but very cool filler.

Agreed.  But I used to love this song when I was ten years old.  It still sounds pretty good 45 years later!
This always makes me think of the segment "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill" from the movie Creepshow.
