I was on my way home from my high school
Stuck at the crossing, I dug in for a duel
But at the last moment, I buried the brakes
My life split in two directions, into two different fates

I got on the last flight to Amsterdam
But couldn't hit the runway, so we took off again
There's no need to worry, the captain cut in
The winds are less angry over in Berlin

You know it's true, the other shoe
It waits for you, what can you do?
Remember to show gratitude
The darkest night is nothing new

Sonny's got a problem all the mini-mart clerks know
She knows nothing of Eminem's suburban gangster flow
Oh, maybe it's random how each moment unfolds
It didn't feel like the wrong time or place until they cut off her clothes

A sunny feeling is taken away
A sunny feeling is taken away
A sunny feeling is taken away
A sunny feeling is taken away

I'm on my way home from my high school
I'm always contemplating why the kids are still cruel
Oh, the kids are still cruel

A sunny feeling is taken away
A sunny feeling is taken away
A sunny feeling is taken away
Some of the feeling gets taken away

Statements like this make me wanna break stuff.

If by Dutch you mean Southern Illinois, then yes.

There are a couple of very "Harrisonesque" songs on this CD.

Wilco? Trendy? This is a band that's been around 15 years and whose—very deep, American—roots go back to the late '80s. We should all live so long to gray at the temples and become "trendy" at the same time.

The Paul Mason Mountain Winery is my absolute favorite place to see a show.  I lived in Cupertino for 25 years and saw many shows there.

I hate to sound like an old fart but one thing I like most - besides the stunning setting - is that they have a very strict decibel limit.  It's load enough, but low enough so that you can actually hear distinct sounds and voices, i.e. not just the white noise of a jet taking off.

They also have a very strict time limit (both limits imposed by the city).  The show must be over by 10:30.  Not 10:31 and it doesn't matter if you're in the middle of a song, at 10:30:00 the show is over.

Maybe a topic for another place....I USED to like the Mountain Winery but the new redesign has completely ruined the funky atmosphere it used to have.

I like this song...I keep thinking it's Spoon, though, for some reason.

Good catch. I just dump albums onto my iPod and never look at it again so I often don't know the names of my favorite songs....

edit: I pm'd Bill and he's fixed it.

Ha!!!
I give Wilco a 6 but the BB a 9 (mostly for Marsha's red mini shorts.)

Nice venue! Hope you had seats that were close enough to the stage.

(I find it odd that they want over $120 a ticket for Steve Miller. Steve I Haven't Had a New Release In Years Miller. Over $120! I can't believe there's significant nostalgia value to warrant those prices when measured against other acts appearing at MW this summer.)

Good Wilco track, too.

Drove from Paris to the Amsterdam Hilton,
Talking in our beds for a week...

I like this, but so far everything I've heard suggests that this Album is sort of a "holding pattern" for Wilco. Looking foward to buying it Tuesday though...

Like the pedal steel a lot...but yeah, as songs go, what about "You and I?" Please?

Yeah, I hate the bad grammar, too. Or should that be also? ;)

Apart from that, this is the best song I've heard from the new CD. Good for chair dancing.

Jay Bennett, the former multi-instrumentalist with the alternative rock band Wilco, died in his sleep in the Illinois town of Urbana on Sunday 5-24-2009, aged 45.

RIP Jay

these guys write some nice songs, and almost get you there....but not quite.

Okay this is the 3rd or 4th time I've heard it and I'm starting to see some chinks in the armor... even tho it's not a song I recognize(d) I didn't immediately say "Hey, wonder if Wilco has a new album?" instead I thought "Wonder which album this is off of?" ... which means it doesn't strike me as much of a departure, if any. I am holding out hope that the rest of the album isn't as easy. Still a 7.5–8 for now but I don't want to hear it tomorrow and think, "ah, this again."

Nothing wrong with corny, especially in this instance. {#Sunny}

When did Wilco get to be my favorite band? I've always liked them but lately just hearing them come on makes it a better day.

First listen: 8. Hope it grows from there.
