I'm lost in the light
I pray for the night
To take me, to take you too

After so many words
Still nothing's heard
Don't know what we should do

So if someone could see me now
Let them see you

'twas my greatest thrill
When we just stood still
You let me hold your hand 'til I had my fill

Even counting sheep
Don't help me sleep
I just toss and turn right there beside ya

So if someone could help me now
They'd help you too

They'd help you too
See you through
All the hard things we've all gotta do

'Cause this life is long
So you wouldn't be wrong
Being free, leaving me on my own

And I held my own
Still I rattled your bones
I said some awful things and I take them back

If we would try again
Just remember when
Before we were lovers I swear we were friends

So if someone could see me now
Let them see you

Let them see you
See you through
All the hard things we've all gotta do

'Cause this life is long
So you wouldn't be wrong
Being free, leaving me on my own

For those of you who remember David Bromberg, this is exactly how he sang, and the music sounds similar, too.

Same for me, as for several other commenters.
Playing with Kathleen Edwards this summer (2022) in Toronto.  Should be stellar...

Whether or not this seems accurate, your post seems to suggest that David Bromberg is in the past. As far as I know he is active. As well as alive.
What?  This isn't Daniel Lanois?  Clearly, I have been bamboozled....
Nice Album Cover!    totally 70's for me.

I've heard it once, and that was two times too many.

Good songwriting, well presented.

Hmmmm.  I've been listening to Bromberg a long, long time and I've liked this song since it came out.  But I've never made that connection.  But you may have something there.  Thx.
Very good! Reminds me a bit of early Boz Skaggs, which is a Good Thing.
At least the next song will not be this dull. Even if it's The Pretenders.

Or John Mayer? Not bad though.

Nice. Thanks for that.  Followed by Etta James, another find.  And down the rabbit home I go for the night.

Something very likable about this song.  Yes to the David Bromberg-like voice.

HOW IS THIS NOT DYLAN'S?

It's got many more chords than most of Dylan's tunes, and it's got a bridge, which is pretty rare for a good portion of old Zimmy's material - especially the earlier stuff.

The singing obviously doesn't sound quite like Daniel Lanois or Bob Dylan but the guitar sounds so much like that sound Lanois has, it's what I think of every time I hear this.

And that's a compliment, BTW.

Some say Leland went to the Bahamas. Me? I dunno. Nice tune.

Definitely works after Bojangles.  I like this trio, great youtube video of them doing this.

Agreed.  Nice segue from Mr Bojangles
Odd coincidence.  I'm not fond of this so PSD - Ramona Falls - Proof.  Singing about "noon on the equator", so I pop over to a world map to see where noon is right now.  Answer:  the Bahamas.  Weird.

Maybe it's just the afterglow from Mr. Bojangles, but yeah.

{#Cheesygrin} I completely agree~
Nice. Really nice. I feel the sun  on my face and my eyelids are heavy.

Those "down the thread" might just be wrong.  I would suggest "Caught Me Thinking","Okay, Alright, I'm Alive","I Got You Babe", and "Time And Time Again" if you like this one.  If those songs float your boat, I would further suggest Bahamas new album, "Is Alfie".  It is easily as good as this disc.

Seconded on all fronts. Listen to h8rhater people, he speaks truth.

Followed Beck Waking Light in the rotation, and I was glad when this came on. Some down thread are saying it's the only worthwhile track on the LP but, you know, at least on this day, you kicked some beck ass.

Nice. A little Jack Johnson on the croony parts, but gets a cool vocal moment in that chorus.
There is a very cool video that goes with this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPJNt1eTVNY  The girl singers are outstanding!

Love this!
Got those goose bumps going. Thanks RP! I don't know where you keep digging all this great music up but keep it coming.
Looking forward to seeing Bahamas at this year's Ann Arbor Folk Festival.
My parents went to the Bahamas, and all they got me were these pajamas.
Daniel Lanois, is that you...?
Very smooth !
If I get busted again reading these comments and chuckling to myself I am going to get the sack.
Here's a pretty cool half hour set from Austin, TX a couple years ago, I believe. Some sweet harmonies captured here...hope you enjoy!    Bahamas :: Full Liveset Session from SXSW  https://youtu.be/HsHetqB6f14?list=LL2hObBK7gKkz_7p_4Xjt1Pg

Great song, nice guitar work, with a deeply honest vocal and backup.  A peaceful realization at the point of breakup...

I concur with three comments below: this sounds a bit like David Bromberg singing "It's Not Dark Yet" in a mashup with the opening bars of "Zorba the Greek."

Awesome song, love it
Hey, it's Jack Johnson! Oh wait, it's another mellow, island-themed act...
Love this

Boring and repetitive lyrics and melody. Can't wait for it to be over...

Indeed. David Bromberg is the closest voice to this. I checked in to see who this was and agree with you. Not bad, although it does fail to move out of the initial gear..
Just right - at the right time, the right place.

I saw them live two weeks ago - opened for Calexico in Denver - and they were just as brilliant in person!
