Crying on the line, tower under vine
Caution on repeat with nowhere to be
Surface of the peak, try a layer deep
Ready to redeem all the drudgery
Follow my pain for a long time, dying
I'm crying on the line, tower under vine
Follow my pain for a long time, dying
I'm crushing on repeat through another week

Towing the line, attention to find a gate free
Pushing up to speed, cut a layer deep
Towing the line, a tension to find a gate free
Ready to redeem all the drudgery
Drive it away and my strength might save me

It feels like eternity for what feels like eternity
And what might overpower me
Head down, don't look up, I grind along
Feels like eternity for what feels like eternity
To race for what's in front of me
Head down, don't look up, I sing

Shelter from the storm, keep each other warm
Who will cover me in my hour of need?
Follow my pain for a long time, dying
I'm crushing on repeat through another week
Holding the light, attempting to fight the bad dream
Ready to redeem all the drudgery
Drive it away when the time lapse strikes me

It feels like eternity for what feels like eternity
And what might overpower me
Head down, don't look up, I grind along
Feels like eternity for what feels like eternity
To race for what's in front of me
Head down, don't look up, I sing

It feels like eternity for what feels like eternity
And what might overpower me
Head down, don't look up, I grind along
Feels like eternity for what feels like eternity
And what might overpower me
Head down, don't look up, I grind along
Feels like eternity for what feels like eternity
To race for what's in front of me
Head down, don't look up, I sing along

I'd listen to some of their earlier stuff. Has anyone tried to get Soft Rock Star into the rotation?
this song is better on second listen

Happened to me and I'm totally fine with that!

Just love Metric. Starting off with an 8. Now let's get rid of inches, feet, miles and fahrenheit.

Is that a Canadian 8 though? With the current CAD to USD exchange rate, that's more like a 6 here in the States.
Hope I don't get stuck listening to this song for eternity
Metric is fucking brilliant
That's some good writing.
Suzanne Vega!

Who should now be considered for RnR Hall of Fame.  40 years of very good albums. Not a stinker in the group.
She has a decent “Tarzan Howl” going on there… like if “Jane” embraced a call & response. 😜
As the kids say “this song slaps”

"Nine Inch Nails, Miles Davis,  Fahrenheit, and Thousand Foot Krutch dislike this comment"
Head down, don't look up, I find a bong

*checks lyrics*

No that's not it.
Thanks RP for introducing me to this fantastic band, like war on drugs, by the way.
I really like
"It feels like eternity for what feels like eternity"
Always interesting to talk about when things just feel like things²

I went to the store yesterday. Car has Sirius for wife's MLB addiction, othewrise it's LIthium or 1stwave. Decided to try something else and tuned to Alt Nation and see what "the latest in modern alt" was .

Some crappy song came on. Ok, wait for the next one.

Metric came on.  Yeah, Metric's cool.

wait! I HEARD THIS ON RP!!!!  William and Alanna are keeping me current!!!
HURRAY FOR RP!!!

(sorry to interject something not-song-related, it was just a happy moment.)

It is song related! And perhaps equally importantly listener-related. :)

This feels like something from the brain of Regina Spektor.. Great groove.

Retro is the new modern music. War on Drugs, Duo Lipa, they're all going for that retro sound nowadays.... nice to hear a new generation of people taking old 70s/80s feel and making it new again!

I'm waiting for the ancient tradition of "guitar solo" to be rediscovered!

Well, it required American state DOTs to design roadways and bridges in metric.  One  of my first solo consulting jobs was translating a 300-sheet Florida DOT plan set from metric into feet and inches.  The Contractor (builder) said, "My equipment has labels and settings for feet and inches.  I cannot build a metric roadway."

[Wow, was that off-topic, or what?]
Loving this!  Has a Berlin feel to it.  Retro indeed!  8 easily, leaning on 9

The intro reminds me of Blood Makes Noise.  Nice song.
Nice One Centurion!.... like it, like it
They nail some hooks! Synthetica is an absolutely brilliant album!

Agree that post-COVID we're seeing some interesting new music

Diggin this. Givin me a bit of an Elastica vibe but that sort of thing happens when you get old.

Is it me or are a lot of bands (including Metric) producing some of their best stuff post-Covid?  Maybe all that isolation was good for creativity?
First got turned on to this LP by Allmusic's Editor's Picks.
Great selection and the album really captures the Covid-times isolation and trip we all went through. I had it on repeat for the first week solid.

I'd never have guessed that this was contemporary.

The mandatory audible in-breath dates it as such.

Metric still has it.

This sounds great on the very first listen.

I'm glad to hear new stuff from this very interesting, talented, and stylish group! They jam! She puts so much into her voice, and it gets me! Every single time!

Loving it already!
