This evening I am grateful for neighbors. Not only did I get set up with eggs the other day when the store had not a single egg, but today when I couldn't get my mower started (even with a new spark plug AND air filter) a neighbor lent me their electric mower which did the front and side yards just fine. And THEN another neighbor came over and helped me get the carburetor on my mower un-gunked so it started and I was able to finish the Back 40 (which would have been really tough with the electric mower). And now, I drink!

Arlo Guthrie
One of my closest friends is fortunate enough to be good friends with Arlo. They get high in the bell tower when he plays the opera house which seems like a gratuitous remark ceptin you don't always get to say "get high in the bell tower" in a sentence. Carpe diem as the kids say.

Dead and Co was awesome at the Hollywood Bowl on the 4th. They opened the show with the local high school jazz band and then rolled into Shakedown Street with the band members. It was really cool. The rest of the show was fantastic too and I loved every minute, rarely sitting down between songs. The bummer was the venue. I continue to be unimpressed with the lack of support from the city for these shows year after year. We come to hear the band and do our thing and they should know by now what that means. Hippies tailgating, sharing and meeting other elusive hippies is the norm. We got there and were packed in like sardines. No possible room around vehicles for taking out a chair let alone a damn cooler to drink some water. It was disappointing once again and I don't think I am going to support the band at this venue again. I much prefer the Irvine venue in the heart of OC of all places. The venue was much more supporting and even the cops were chill. Now that Irvine is no longer, I would really like to see them back at Chula Vista again. I am not gonna do the Bowl or Dodger Stadium again. Too much friggin drama.

But no sunshine so we're all little pale, shaky and anaemic looking. Just glad that it's over with. Still listen to al the updates because we just can't believe what happened. There are campers and caravans and trailers and RVs all around town making it even creepier than it normally is. We're so lucky and grateful that the lines held because we were the first neighborhood to go if they were to start evacuating Oroville. Some people down the road started a collection center in their front yard to drop off clothing and stuff. We didn't have much but we dropped off some stuff. Our citrus trees are fruiting insanely - like OV on a Thursday night behind the Taco Bell over on 3rd street next to the Senior Center - I wish we could share the bounty with people. We'll have a hundred pounds or more of fruit to share. I'll post some pics if I can remember how to. That's all we have to give. It's ironic to give a big box of lemons to people who just lost everything. They probably don't feel like making lemonade. I'm going to have to get a power squeezer. For the citrus. To make juice. Anywho, just glad its over. For us, anyway. I did design a fund raising t-shirt and posted it all over the local facebook groups but nobody bought any. I'm still a shit designer. I just can't imagine the scale of the catastrophe - it still freaks me out. Millions of tons of toxic waste. One 13,000 homesteads burned down. That's so many people, I can't imagine it. If you want to donate, go to the tri counties bank and use their GoFundMe because every dollar will go to the victims. It's the best place place to donate.
