EMI turnaround plan hitting all the wrong notes
The former Electric and Music Industries Ltd. was created in 1931, though one of its two predecessor companies, London's Gramophone, dates back to 1897. Its roster included an impressive array of stars, among them Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, Deep Purple, the Spice Girls, Madonna and Blur.
EMI - home of the Beatles, Coldplay, Miles Davis and Katy Perry - must present a business plan to Terra Firma and its investors for long-term growth and profitability. If they balk, EMI will go into default and almost certainly become a ward of its main creditor, Citigroup. Rival Warner Music...is said to be watching EMI's spasms with something approaching rapture.

Rapper Guru, who rose to fame with pioneering group Gang Starr and later released a series of successful solo albums under the "Jazzmatazz" banner, is in a coma after suffering a heart attack and will undergo surgery today (Mar. 1), according to a Sirius radio interview with his former partner in Gang Starr, DJ Premier. Guru, whose real name is Keith Elam, has kept a low profile of late. The 43-year-old artist released a solo album, "Lost and Found," in May 2009, which ended a two-year break following his fourth Jazzmatazz album, "The Hip-Hop Jazz Messenger: Back to the Future." Gang Starr never officially broke up but hasn't been active in more than five years. Its last album was 2003's "Ownerz

Who singer wants to team up with Page
Roger Daltrey wants to start a super-group with Jimmy Page. The Who singer is keen to form a new band with the Led Zeppelin guitarist and go back to the blues roots he established before he started writing songs with bandmate Pete Townshend.

Now Lou Reed needs to sue Cake and The Who and BTO for using the Sweet Jane riff. Ludicrous AND anti-art/creativity. Yea, reminds me of all the sampling brouhaha with hip-hop. All music is chronologically built on the music before. Reminds me of my favorite quote: "Truly original thoughts have long been extinct, but so few have been heard they bear repeating." Everyone should be free to create music anyway, anyhow they see fit and use the exact loops and melodies straight from another song if they wish; it is all a complex hodgepodge anyway!

I don't know if a final decision has been reached yet - but it is a ridiculous ruling from that judge. He's missing the whole point of the song. More here.
