There are 9 different dog pun threads in the forum, but I've always preferred sneaking them up on people.

I never thought you were and certainly didn't mean to accuse you of any feline leanings.  Just pointing out that while in general cats may be more likely to try for one than dogs, a dog that has learned the technique is a much bigger threat to a mole than a cat.   Rocky is not actually a specialist yet either.  Other than giving him a treat every time he gets one I haven't made any real effort to train him.  He's also quite happy to take down mice, shrews, chipmunks, squirrels, raccoon, and he's really fond of possum too.   He brings me back about one a week, although thus far they've all just been playing possum so it might be the same one that he keeps bring back over and over again.

I disagree.  I've known several cats that were good molers, but not compared to a dog that has learned to specialize in them.  Cats tend to limit themselves to when the varmints poke their ugly little heads up or are very near the surface.  It takes a dog to go the extra mile and get them where they live.

He's not yet two and currently he's getting a minimum of two a week, usually three or four, sometimes six or seven.   It depends mostly on how much time I'm willing to spend outside with him.  As he gets older and better at it and hopefully secure enough to be outside without me the numbers are likely to go up a good bit.   They do have one drawback compared to cats.  I've never met one yet that would replace its divots.
