It is quite clear that any plans left behind by Trump were discounted and tossed.  It has been Biden's plan from day one to undo everything that Trump accomplished over the last four years.  Afghanistan is no different.  Trump was to have us out by the end of May.  Biden disregarded that and came up with his own plan.

On day one Biden killed the Keystone pipeline and just earlier this month was begging OPEC to increase oil production.  Defend that one.

Kurt - what was the plan?  There was no plan, and the "accomplishments" you site that Biden wanted to undo was Trumps attack on any plan.  He hates plans.  He hates people who plan. He thinks he's so smart he doesn't have to plan.  It's preposterous.

As for Keystone...I realize juggling two issues can be challenging, so I'll try to go slow.  You can stop one thing to prioritize the local environment, even if you still need the oil.  At that point, you move on.  I'm sure you know that the majority of the Keystone oil was going to be exported from the US as refined products.  The impact on gasoline pricing would be negligible...but we digress.  Oh yeah...Biden stopped it in January.  How much oil would have been flowing 7 months later when he asked OPEC to increase production?  I know...it's a lot to remember.

As oil prices and inflation rise, you ask those that produce the oil to increase production (which was reduced to keep prices high during COVID in 2020) so that inflation doesn't spiral into all of the prices that are impacted by oil.    It's called managing the economy.  It's the kind of thing you would do if you had the "greatest economy in history", but then pissed it away and lost an election because you tried to prop up the stock market instead of addressing the virus.

I know, it's the Chinese Communist Party's fault.  Good thing they like Joe so much.

That is not at all what I am saying.  Just talking about Biden's handling of this problem.  It doesn't need to be compared to anything else.  The most previously experienced person ever elected to POTUS to take office and with the bonus of all of his foreign policy expertise. This is his plan and he is executing it all by himself.  It is unfolding exactly as he expected and planned and prepared for according to his repeated statements.  This is Biden's Plan A.  That the best that the USA can do is what we have been and are doing now.  Couldn't have been done any better by anyone else.  Great plan.
.
Or are you saying that it would not be any different regardless of who was making the decisions ?

We have some history to guide us here.

Hoards of refugees clamoring to escape persecution, leading to US troops in harm's way to protect them. Yeah, we know how sympathetic Trump was to refugees. I mean, they're from a shithole country, right? Why should we lift a finger to help them, let alone guard an airport while we fly them to safety?

Or maybe he would have built a wall around the airport and made the Taliban pay for it.

Biden has not covered himself with glory here, but this disaster was 20 years in the making. I can't blame the last fool when the previous three did at least as much...as presidents. Biden gets some unique blame for his decades in congress authorizing (and failing to exercise oversight and control over) the debacle as it unrolled, but he's not alone there either.

The recent loss of life is tragic but these bodies are stacked on a pile a quarter million tall.

The answer is going to be plan better.  Of course, everyone saying that is from the side that negotiated the deal, reduced all of the troops in-country, and turned over no plan for the final extraction.

I don't doubt for a minute it wouldn't have happened if he were the President.

After losing the election, he reduced the in-country troops from 13,000 to 2,500.  That 2,500 was achieved just days before the inauguration.   It wouldn't have happened if he'd won...and we'd be stuck with another 4 years of Trump playing the "Great Defender against the evil Taliban" card.  "I alone can fix it".

Trump lit the house on fire and then screams the house wouldn't have burned down if he was Fire Chief.   The only problem with his silliness is that too many actually believe him.

Yeah, if Trump were still in office, it would all have unfolded differently. Something that can never be proven or disproven, like a conspiracy theory.

The omniscient and omnipotent Trump clearly would have known how to handle a group of rural conservative gun-toting god-fearing xenophobic patriots coming for the central government while yelling "Make Afghanistan Great Again!".

Good point. Did we blame Jerry Ford for the collapse of South Vietnam?
