that drives me crazy (no pun intended.) i haven't been on a road trip in years, and this past weekend i made a 3 hr drive to visit friends. i know, not very long at all - and well worth it, but this very thing happened to me so often and i find it not only annoying but kind of dangerous, imo.

anyway, sorry if this is a stupid question, but is this "feature" beaker and steely_d mentioned - is this autocorrect really going to be something on ALL cars? and you won't be able to bypass/disable it or whatever?

if that's the case, i am not comfortable with this at all...

I do at least 2 (trying to do 4) 2500 mile road trips a year. I'm all for automatic cruise control adjustment - especially since there are so many people like the ones initially mentioned who will blaze by you, then slow down to 3 MPH less than you were going.  I'm not so sure about lane departure correction, but I am looking at a newish subaru, and looking forward to trying it out.

Yeah, really annoying.  It's like the car manufacturers think we're simpletons.  Maybe some of us are.

A few years ago, I rented a little hotrod for a roadtrip with a 10+ hr drive.  When that lane departure correction first kicked in, it was, WTF?  Rental dudes didn't warn me.  Pulled over, fiddled through the menuing, and disabled that damn annoyance then and there.  Us geezers are just intolerant of some kinds of 'helpful' new tech.

That feature puzzled me when I first noticed it.  I wondered why very new cars seemed to be stalling out at traffic lights (I had an old Ford Escort that would often stall out at longer traffic lights).  It allegedly increases fuel economy and reduces emissions, but those may be nominal differences.  Apparently it can be disengaged on most vehicles.

That was the first thing I found that caused problems.  It is the one feature that turns off and stays off, unlike the collision braking and assisted steering which you have to turn off every time you start the car.

I dunno.  My present car, a 2019 Civic does that on cruise. That really pisses me off.

It has a sensor that slows down to match the speed of the car ahead when you get close. Haven't found a way to turn it off yet.

It's because they make cars safe for idiots who think that their car is a phone booth on wheels.  And unsafe for those who actually pay attention to the road and drive their car.

You haven't lived until you changed 2 lanes real fast and as you get behind the car in the first lane over on the way to the second lane and the collision braking system slams on the brakes.  Pissed you off and the cars behind you, too.  Found out how to turn that one off.  Now If I can find a way to turn of ABS.

Left click on the image and copy the address or URL then just paste that into your new post.  The image should appear in the window (if not it probably has some sort of invalid file type (i.e. .webp) or be hosted on a site which prevents reposts.  Some social media sites, like Facebook, may not allow reposts because the URL doesn't end with a valid image suffix like ".jpg" etc.
When the image appears in the window you can resize it by hovering over the image and dragging the blue square at the lower-right corner of the preview image.

Thanks. I was so use to using the edit bar to insert it into the post.
