The Patrick Fitzgerald in this case is not a judge, so he doesn't have a courtroom. This Patrick Fitzgerald is employed by the scandal-ridden US Department of Justice. Also, straight shooters don't tell whopping lies before news cameras. If Fitz does not get a felony conviction, the legislature is going to look like a bunch of pikers. No kidding! And since the federal code doesn't have many misdemeanor options, I'll bet that Fitzgerald is praying hard that the threatened (by the GOP before the election) terrorist attack against Obama happens soon, to distract the world as he slips away like a thief in the night...

Patrick Fitzgerald is a straight shooter and I have had the pleasure of being in his courtroom, but I get the impression he is in deep water here. I think a conviction on anything significant is a 50-50 proposition at best. Fitz needs 12 jurors and Blago needs 1. It will not be hard for the (ex) governor to make his case in court. He is populist and charismatic, and performs well in settings like courtrooms.
If Fitz does not get a felony conviction, the legislature is going to look like a bunch of pikers.

Reporter: "Did you ever consider resigning?"
Blagojevich: "No, I did not."
Sadly he probably was forced to be "fired" so that he can collect unemployment insurance. No matter how you feel about him, his two young daughters are innocent, and deserve at least the basics in life.

He's in very good spirits, sharing his stage with local children who wanted to get on TV. He's speaking coherently, and not over-emotionally. Mighty gracious in defeat.
BTW, for those who have ridiculed him about his hair: he has a big scar on his forehead that extends down to the bridge of his nose, and almost to his left eye. You can see the bottom of that scar clearly. I imagine that if he didn't wear his hair that way, that people would look at him like he was a cyclops.
Frankly, he got my sympathy with that speech and I really agree with him.

The same can be said for Daschle, and with a whole lot of evidence to back it up in Daschle's case.

Right now the news is talking about "now Illinois can do something about its budget deficit", as if it was the Governor's job to submit a balance budget to the Governor. No...that job is, and always has been that of the General Assembly!
In this game of political brinkmanship, Tom Daschle and his cronies won, and the People of Illinois lost.
In the scales of ethics and responsibility, let's put Daschle in one side and Blago in the other, and...let the psychostasia begin! Blagojevich can play the populist friend of the people all he likes. The revuslion against him is practically universal. He stands convicted by his own words, and by his own bizarre refusal afterwards to explain himself coherently or play by any known rules. We're not discussing Marlon Brando, here (though we are talking similar eccenticities). There is, and should be, a severe standard applied to prominent public servants. They serve at our pleasure. When they screw up—and Blago did so, however you want to slice it—it's dulce et decorum that they go, and go swiftly.
